Cake for breakfast in B gate lounge LHR

This is rather trivial compared to many threads here but as a tip for anyone in LHR this morning, there is a very nice Apple and Blackberry layer cake on the breakfast buffet in the lounge at the B gates. I’m hoping cake for breakfast is a new thing as I don’t think I have seen it before.

what a great start to my trip!

Italians and Spaniards are great ones for cake at breakfast even if they all seem terribly thin.

I suspect that's part of the slightly improved offer at T5B to meet those arriving and connecting within T5B, who may not necessarily be on a breakfast time zone. I think should be some other lunch like options there such as tapas, salad items and quiches.

Forgive my small correction c-w-s but Italians and Spaniards are thin because they eat cake! Enjoying life fully and having a healthy diet are key to weight control ;-)

I stayed at a little pension on Lake Iseo last Sep and there were 3 types of cake at breakfast! I felt like a child on Christmas morning.

LH lounges can have a very nice plum cake. And a small cupcake really rounds off a good hearty breakfast. Let’s campaign for more cakes in the BA lounges!

But as we all know with BA, you can’t have your cake and eat it.

Pains aux Raisin and croissants etc aren’t far off either.. I’m a big fan of a sweet breakfast and bitter coffee to kick off my appetite

I lived for 25 years in Italy and I don’t remember ever having seen cake at breakfast in a bar, at home, at the office canteen... or anyone ordering cake for breakfast. pastries, sure. Cannoli, brioches of all kinds, granted. But cake? Not unless there was some left from the day before

Talking

If they now implement 'pull champagne yourself' at T5 so I don't have to go to the kitchen all time I'll be even happier

The Americans have 'bran muffins' for breakfast.
Disguising healthy fibre with flour, eggs and sugar.

And a cupcake is definitely not the same as a cake as this lady strongly mentions.

I love plum cake, but I associate it with Germany and other German speaking regions of Europe.

Although it might seem so at times, for those who are curious:

Cakes generally use cake flour, whereas muffins often use all-purpose, whole wheat, oat, other grain (e.g.spelt) or even nut flours - making cakes less dense than muffins

Cakes generally use butter, whereas muffins generally use liquid oils

Cake batters are beaten longer than muffin batters, giving cakes a more uniform texture

Cakes (and cupcakes) are often topped with frosting/icing/ganache, whereas muffins rarely are

Cakes are always sweet, whereas muffins can be sweet or savoury

Or as one person has said, if you wouldn’t put the batter in a round pan and bake someone a birthday cake with it, it’s a muffin
