Noticed one sitting at the gate. When did delta start using this concourse for 777’s?

Confused? Theres no T2 at ATL. Theres Concourses ABCDEFT, which are in the domestic and international terminals.

JFK DL uses T2, along with LAX.

OK makea more sense. It likely was a JFK flight. DL tryst to always put NYC/WAS out of T2. If 777 needs to fly to JFK they can out there, put likely requires taking a 2nd gate out of commission.

Well aware. Atl is my home airport. I’ve never seen a 777 at this concourse. Could also be a lax flight. But looking for somebody who is positive the details here.

Turns out it’s lax. But anybody with more details on when they started using this concourse for 777?

Terminal T used to be the international terminal and it is set up for wide body airplanes. So it may be used as an “overflow” for E/F ?

You don't see it as much as you used to, but widebodies on T aren't unheard of. I've got a photo from 2003 where T1-8 are all 767s.

Often, when I find myself on a domestic widebody flight, it's departing out of a domestic concourse and not E/F. I've seen widebodies at most concourses, but not D that I can remember.

I've seen 777s at T1 occasionally going back for years. Very occasionally, though. Never noticed one at T2 though.

I noticed the same flight at T going to LAX a couple months ago and wondered about the 777 flight myself. Looks like they arrive at E/F and then get towed over to T for the LAX flight.

I did the same double take several months ago, in May I believe. Whenever I see a domestic widebody, I get annoyed that I’m not on it.

I wonder why they do that. I imagine the timing of the flight doesn't interfere with actual international flight arrivals from Europe? Is it that those flights are more appealing departing from T?

Taken from the ATL competition plan:

T1 and T2 can fit a 777ER (at ~200ft wingspan) with minimal impact to the adjacent gates. The wider LR would have more trouble fitting without significant impact.

Before concourse F opened you would even see concourse A sometimes used for departing international flights. Dublin seemed to be a frequent departure from A.
