Grabbing an exit row seat long haul as a silver card
Does anybody know my chances of nabbing an exit row seat for free for an upcoming long haul flight 24 hours before departure if I were to log in right as OLCI check in opens? This is in economy.
At the moment as a silver I can have any seat bar the exit row which is pricing at a £73 premium. But I understand I can select for free 24 hours out. In anybody’s experience, have I got a reasonable shot at getting one if nobody has paid or if no Gold card have selected them? Or does BA assign them away to lucky punters? Seat map on BA currently showing 4/6 exit row seats open.

If you check-in as soon as possible then I think you have a good chance of selecting an exit row seat, assuming 4 of 6 remain free at that point. Theoretical seating (TS) might restrict this depending on who has selected the other 2 seats.
BA wouldn’t ‘give the seats away’ to non-status economy passengers for free at check-in, unless those are the only seats left in the cabin.

It's a lottery - depends on whether others are checking in on connecting flights, so will be able to check in earlier. Also TS plays a part.
Best you can do is either stump up to be sure, or be ready at the moment checkin opens and see if you get lucky.

I forgot about those sneaky connecting passengers getting in before you.

£74??? What route are you on? My current regular route between UK & Moscow and the exit seats are £87 (as Silver) for a 3.5 hour flight.

It's truly impossible to tell. Full flight, very few high status pax in Y, you have a good chance. Full flight and lots of GCH/Emerald, you have no chance. Empty flight and GCH/Emerald, you have low chances. Empty flight and very few GCH/Emerald you have great chances.
