F lounge in HKG arriving on CX F, departing on BA Y

I've searched all over and can't find the answer to this specific question.

Arriving CX F from LAX 18:55, depart BA Y at 23:45: can I use the F lounges in HKG?

Thank you, community!

Technically no I don't think. You are longhaul to longhaul, per OW rules not allowed. Longhaul to shorthaul is permitted.

Searching always appreciated. This is a common one. The OW rules are posted somewhere (a few times), or someone can add them again here.

In practice CX may let you in anyway. I'm not sure. That is a crazy way to get to London btw!

Thanks,.. what if it was HKG-LHR on CX Y, or CX J ?

I realize it's crazy but I need to burn up my CX miles!

CX-CX you might get F lounge on the transit, but it's not a given. The OW rules are clear, so you won't on CX-BA.

Potential theory:

If you book a ticket from HKG to (lets say) PEK in fully flex Y, and presume you're 'connecting' to said 'short-haul' flight, no-show, rebook and cancel then surely you could use the lounge between your LAX-HKG and HKG-LHR flight?

Oh I guess that's an option. So even after I've checked in I can:
  1. get my lounge access pass
  2. go to a CX desk at HKG and cancel / refund?

Would hate to be a no-show that causes any delay in departure etc while they wait for me to show up!

Most, if not all, CX fares now have a refund/noshow fee (even if modest). Even if modest, it prevents such a trick.
And I would not look forward to the hassle of cancelling the ticket at the airport. You would need to check-in (to get your BP to show at the lounge), then cancel it and refund ticket.

And, of course, that's fraud, should that bother you.

Yes I agree, this is not a good option! I'll just pop into Hong Kong for a couple of hours, take the Star Ferry across the harbour...

Hi,

Do you have any oneworld status ?

If you have an American express platinum or centurion charge card you could access the American Express Centurion lounge.

You could also try the Qantas lounge to see if they would let you in?

Regards

Even if not entitled, I would still ask at the lounge.

That BA Y flight is going to be rough, though, coming off CX F...

It's a bit circuitous, but I sure hope you have a good time on CX F. When are you flying? I'll be doing this flight later this week.

I hadn't thought of that - I do have the Amex plat. Still, nothing's as good as the CX F lounges!

True, but I'm going to be fast asleep for that entire 12 hours, I'm quite certain of that!

Hi,

Agree with that. I popped in quickly to the Centurion lounge and it was not bad with a reasonable selection of food but the Cathay lounges are better.
