Truth be told, up to 30cm of snow is forecast overnight with strong winds, so the number of flights cancelled is relatively small.

Did you ever go through LHR or FRA when there is 1 inch of snow? Helsinki handles snow very, very good.

Morning flights - yes

many are evening flights
So they must predict delays in the morning will have major impact?

Helsinki airport had 188cm (6ft) of snow last winter but the last time it was forced to close because of the weather was in 2003.

That closure lasted for half an hour.

Airport still not closing down, some flights are cancelled. Most are flying.

As a side note. ARN went from 3 operational RWY to 1 this afternoon, going from 40 planes/h to 4/h. Some were diverted to HEL TKU. Let's see if they get stuck there when snow moves on...

Lucky I left BMA and landed at HEL and not TKU there was some 1 hour delay departing BMA. Now waiting at HEL for JOE, board still showing all midnight departures scheduled. Keeping fingers up and enjoying the raid
I am watching (drooling) those empty Lumo reserved seats, I never seen anyone sitting there. Wannabe-me would like an inofficial meetup chat but no.

Indeed, better luck than some!
One interviewed pax said "captain came on and said we will circle a bit before landing because runway is too slippery" and only after landing they were told they were in TKU!

I saw both DY4080 and DY4314 heading for TKU earlier. I guess they hurried home as soon as they could?

It came from Paris, maybe crew has timed out? 4080 came from GOT perhaps with more options to move quickly somewhere.

I just wonder how on earth a ARN-bound plane diverts to TKU?? Why not another Swedish airport?

Near swedish airports may have had restrictions too. And with DY one could suspect crew hours and fuel are so tigthly planned that there are few options.
