No lounge access at HGH & no mileage if flying coach on CA codeshare with Dragon Air

Booked a code share with Dragon Air on China Air. My UA FF number is duly recorded on my boarding pass. However I am flying coach and my *G status does not get me into the lounge. They insist I need One World status as the flight is operated by Dragon Air. I had not run into this before with code shared flights that cross airline alliances. They were polite yet firm. At least I will get UA miles for booking this way.

Sorry to say, but no you won’t. To get credit on UA, the flight needs to be operated by a partner - Dragon Air (now Cathay Dragon, IIRC) is not partners with UA. This is how crediting is done in *A.

Now that is unfortunate. Why did I even bother booking this way.

If I can’t even get miles on UA, can I still get them on AA via one world?

Hard to say for sure without knowing the actual fare information, but IMO the chances that AA will award miles on a KA operated CA codeshare flight are slim, because
1) AA rules state that the flight must be CX/KA operated AND marketed
2) your ticket has a CA fare code instead of KA
3) you purchased a discount fare that is ineligible for mileage earning

To earn AAdvantage® miles when you fly on Cathay Pacific marketed and operated flights as well as Cathay Pacific codeshare flights operated by oneworld® carriers and affiliates:
...
If a purchased fare booking code is not listed in the tables, no Elite Qualifying Credits or award miles are earned. EQMs and EQDs are calculated based on a percentage of the distance flown as determined by the booking code. Elite bonuses do not apply to EQMs or EQDs...

Nope, you've booked in the crack:

*A credits based on operating carrier
OW credits based on marketing carrier and operating carrier

So no credit for you.

Lesson learned. Be wary of code shares across alliances

Not sure if banking the miles in CX’s program will do me any good. It isn’t much- about 1000 miles. Buys a snack at EWR if UA miles.

Related question: flying 016 ticket stock with a segment in I on KA. Would I get anything credited to AA?

What's the marketing carrier on the flight? That matters more than ticket stock.

It’s a KA flight number.

You'll get credit with AA, both EQM and EQD by distance though.

its possible, though still depends. Assuming it’s like CX, something like the lowest half of fare classes get zero crediting to AA. Check the AA site for the table.

He/she already said it's an I fare on KA.
