2018 earning SPG Platinum and Marriott Platinum Separately - Plat desk did not know

I am about to hit 50 nights to make SPG Platinum in 2018. I know in years past you can earn Plat. In both programs in a year to count as 2 years of the 10 for LTP in the new program. After earning SPG Platinum, what would happen if I then stayed 75 nights at a Marriott? Could I then make Marriott Platinum in 2018 separately to earn two years of Platinum?

The reason for the confusion is that for this year only it appears you can still make SPG Platinum under the old SPG rules. I know after 8/1 basically everything will be Marriott. The reason I am asking is that I might possibly have 125 nights this year and was thinking about whether it mattered which brand I stayed at. Unfortunately this will be only my 8th year of Platinum.

I believe this would only work if I made Platinum in both programs by 8/1. I can do that. I think on 8/1 SPG LTP or 2018 SPG Platinum just becomes a Marriott Platinum so 75 more Marriott nights just adds to my to one program total. I would appreciate your thoughts on this? Is there any way to make Platinum in both programs separately this year? By the way if I have 60 SPG nights and 40 Marriott nights in 2018 does that just count as 100 Marriott nights in the new program for Platinum Premier 100?

If by the end of the year you have at least 100 total nights (SPG + Marriott, so your example of 60 + 40 would work) AND $20,000 eligible spend, you'll get MR PPwithAMB. The timing of specific nights ahsouldn't matter, although you would get the benefits earlier if you qualify earlier, starting around August 1.

You have until 12/31 to achieve a legacy level in the legacy programs under legacy rules. If you achieve PLT in both programs under previous rules, they will count as 2 occurrences of meeting PLT status towards the future program criteria for LT PLT of 10 years at PLT.

If you stay more than 100 nights between the two programs by 12/31 and spend more than $20K total, you will achieve PLT/100/Ambassador status for 2019. So your scenario of 60+40 would meet the nights criterion, but you also need to meet the $20k spend.

If you achieve 100 SPG nights by 12/31, you will achieve SPG's Ambassador status without requiring the $20k spend. It is presumed that this will carry through 2019 at the 100/Ambassador level, though final confirmation is pending.

If I stay 125 nights in 2018 - 50 in spg hotels and 75 in Marriott hotels can I separately earn SPG Platinum and Marriott Platinum, 2 years of Platinum towards my 10? Or will this default to Platinum 100 with ambassador? I am willing to give up ambassador level to get 2 years of Platinum.

If you stay in 2018 at least 25 stays or 50 nights with SPG and 75 nights with Marriott, you will earn 2 years of Platinum towards the 10 years Platinum requirement in a new program. You will not get Ambassador if you do not stay 100 nights with SPG, your new status would be Platinum Premier Elite until 02/20.

It's covered on the Member Benefits page.

You can qualify for Lifetime status based on your combined Rewards and SPG nights and Elite years. If you achieved Elite status in both SPG and Rewards in one year, you’ll receive credit for two Elite years. You can also qualify via the existing criteria through December 31, 2018. When your current Elite status is higher than your Lifetime status, you’ll receive the higher-status benefits for that year.

Allow me to repeat myself, and ask what isn't clear.

Short answer, Yes.

Plus, AFAIK, the "OP" could still get Starriott Ambassador status in the new program if there's $20,000 of combined qualified spend.

Actually they did mentioned that you can either qualify for elite status using legacy program or the new program for 2018.
So by that wording, if you do 50 nights at SPG and 75 nights at Marriott, shouldn't you get 3 years of LT platinum elite?

Last I checked 1 + 1 = 2. So starting in August once your accounts are merged, it's either MPG or a combination of the two by the end of the year to determine your status for 2019.

My Ambassador has confirmed to me in writing that achieving 100 nights with Starwood legacy hotels by 12/31 without reaching the $20k in spend will indeed provide Ambassador status through the 2019 program year. Note that post August program merger, only previously Starwood branded hotel stays count towards this. No Marriott hotel nights, pre or post August, will count towards achieving Ambassador status without the minimum spend.

If you hit 500 nights by 12/31/18 with SPG and 9 years PLAT, is it possible to hit Marriott PLAT Elite by 12/31/18 and combine them together to have the 10 years PLAT and 500 nights to get LTP in 2018? In other words, qualify under SPG old LTP rules using one PLAT year under Marriott if done by 12/31/18.

Yes, as long as you EARN Plat status with MR and it's not a matched status. I'm sure there will be many corner cases that will need to be "corrected" (manually adjusted) to get you to where you should be.
