Difference between Mainline and Rouge A321s
Are the Rouge A321s a different variant than the Mainline ones?
I always knew the Rouge subfleet is newer and equipped with sharklets instead of winglets.
But today, I noticed their engines also look different (see the exhaust):
Rouge A321 vs. Mainline A321
Planespotters.net database tells me they are both CFM56-5 engines: Rouge, Mainline
What am I missing?

They're obviously a different sub-variant of the CFM56-5, with the newer build Rouge planes having the chevrons on the exhaust nozzle. Probably uprated too for the higher weights that a Rouge flight probably will have.
If you get up and close to them, I believe newer builds use a flatter rivet as well. Similar deal on the newer 737NG variants (and MAX) versus the earlier 737NG builds.

The Chevrons had to be added on the 321 to meet updated stage 4 noise regulations that came into effect ~2005 - AC's fleet is older than that so didn't need them.
Not required on 320 and 319 but available to airlines as an option (but supposedly slightly reduces efficiency).

Good question @Adam Smith. AC has three "newer" ex-Air France 321's dating from 207, 2008 and 2009 with the following registration numbers:
C-FGKN
C-FGKZ
C-FGKP
(the only 321's with registration starting with C-FG**)
Will need to keep eye out for them.

@Adam Smith, @The Lev, From personal observation, I can confirm that the "newer" 321s do have the chevrons. They also have updated overhead bins and cabin walls that are consistent with the Rouge 321s.

@Adam Smith, @The Lev, @marke190
Interestingly, it appears that
C-FGKN does not have them,
C-FGKP does have them, and
C-FGKZ had them at one point but no longer does!
The mystery deepens...
