Quick one, I’m sure - does a travel agent HBO booking get trumped by status to check in a bag or does the HBO booking trump status?

HBO trumps everything*. TA or not doesn't matter.
(And 'override' works just as well).
* Not quite everything - some corporate deals may allow bags on HBO fares but if you had one of those, you'd probably know about it.

correct, hbo ta booking is hbo unless advises otherwise regardless of your status mate. Sorry
