More 380’s for BA?

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...-on-more-a380s

Been rumoured for a while but could this be getting more likely?

I think it make sense to lease some A380
after all, some routes have extraordinary high demand, we are glad to see the changes from B773-ER to A380 in some US/Asian Destinations..

Yet, I have heard that the condition of ex-SQ A380 fleet seems not so good.

From the article... “BA is examining a deal for new planes after concluding that refurbishing used examples of the Airbus behemoth for its own needs would be too expensive”.

I hope not. I’m not a fan of either.

I would have thought that BA would shy away from purchasing SH frames with EA GP7200 engines as the rest of their fleet are fitted with RR Trent 900s.

No doubt some routes need more seats than a densified 777 can provide. Whether that translates to an economic case for more 380 acquisitions is a different argument. I suspect if the business case existed, BA would have been seeking further airframes earlier than today.

Higher density ~ fewer rotations ~ less appealing to customers? But what do I know?

And the new A380s have the option of 11 across in Y!

BA have been looking at additional A380 frames for quite a while. They ran the rule over the MH birds, the 6 coming off lease from SQ and have continually said a new order wasn’t happening at current prices, but I believe they see a fleet of 20 as being a good fit for them at the right price.

I recall the picture Airbus put out, which looked horrendous. And that's from someone who isn't bothered by Y in a BA 788.

Surely no airline has bought that config?

Why is it a surprise? Bars on aircraft tend to disturb those of us who choose not to drink ourselves in to a stupor. I’m no fan of walled suites on aircraft and EK’s first class coffins of bling I find claustrophobic. EK’s business class is also quite ‘snug’ and restricted space wise. I was top tier with Emirates for 5 years, it’s just not to my taste.
