New FREE Companion Ticket BofA Credit Card Offer

I couldn't find a current credit card thread so I started this one.

The Points Guy posted that beginning on May 1 and running through July 10, 2017, the $99 co-pay on the Companion Ticket will be waived the first year. In other words, all you'd have to pay are the taxes and fees on the Companion Ticket.

It looks like this might be an inflight-only offer.

Cool. A large part of the merger is selling the credit card to VX customers in California. This is a great way to get them to sign up.

This is for flights on AS only or will it also work for partner airlines booked via partner desk?

The regular companion "certificate" is valid on AS and VX (and Skywest, Horizon). No other partners. So I think this one will be exactly the same.

Thank you. I was trying to find out if it included Hainan and I couldn't find anybody that would give me an answer.

The companion cert is only good for revenue flights on AS/QX/OO metal, not awards, MUCH LESS partner awards.

It's official:

Alaska Airlines launches zero dollar* companion fare offer for new cardholders in May and June

SEATTLE, May 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- A new, limited-time promotion makes Alaska's Famous Companion FareTM offer even sweeter for new Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® consumer cardholders this May and June. New cardholders who apply in May and June can buy one ticket and get their first companion fare for just the taxes and fees (after qualifying purchases).

The annual companion fare is one of the most popular benefits of the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® card, allowing cardholders the opportunity to take someone along for the ride to anywhere Alaska and Virgin America fly for $99 (plus taxes and fees from $22) - with no blackout dates. This benefit is good for any coach fare, any day, any time. All new qualifying cardholders during May and June will only pay the taxes and fees for the companion fare in the first year.

"For the next two months we're taking one of our best credit card benefits and making it even better," said Ryan Butz, Alaska's managing director of loyalty marketing. "Since we introduced the companion fare in 1999, guests have saved hundreds of millions of dollars on companion airfare, and we can't wait to introduce this popular benefit to new cardholders."

Alaska cardholders flying on Virgin America flights now enjoy all of their favorite benefits, including Alaska's Famous Companion Fare™ (when booked via alaskaair.com), a free checked bag for the cardholder and up to six other passengers on the same reservation, and three miles for every dollar spent directly on Alaska and Virgin America purchases.

The card is tied to Alaska Mileage Plan, the country's top-ranked frequent flyer program. Members of Alaska Mileage Plan enjoy the only major airline loyalty program that still rewards a mile flown with a mile earned and some of the most generous benefits in the industry. Members enjoy complimentary upgrades for elite members, award travel starting at 5,000 miles one-way (plus taxes and fees) and a faster path to elite status compared to other airlines. With Alaska and Alaska Global Partners, members can earn and redeem miles to more than 900 destinations worldwide.

* Plus taxes and fees starting from $22
