Malaysia Airlines interline agreements on MS / OS and other airlines

I had a similar query to the one linked below about Malaysian Airlines interlining on transfers to other airlines:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/other...-emirates.html

I called an MH agent to confirm the situation but he seemed a bit uncertain so I thought I'd ask the experts here.

The itinerary I'm considering will have 2 separate tickets. First one is SYD-KUL on MH. Second one is KUL-BKK-VIE on Egypt Air (MS) then Austrian Airlines (OS) (this is actually an Avianca redemption). The transfer time at KUL would be on the tight side at 90 minutes.

The MH agent said I could be ticketed all the way to VIE at the Sydney MH check-in counter ONLY if the itinerary above was on a SINGLE TICKET.

Does MH have interline agreements for my intinerary and can I in fact be ticketed and have luggage sent all the way to VIE?

That's a tricky one. I know MH have interline agreements with MS but I'm not sure about OS. However, MH are pretty good when it comes to helping you at check-in with stuff like this. I have been told that interline agreements may exist between airlines but it is at the discretion of the check-in staff that results in whether your bags will get checked all the way through. I remember doing this for an MH-AF flight. MH were great in checking bags through to AF and my final destination but AF refused to do the same on the way back.

Not true. Like my example above when transferring from an MH flight to an AF flight, they were separate PNRs.

Thanks for replying. Yes it didn't sound right to me and its pretty unhelpful when the airline's agent doesn't give a convincing answer.

In any case, since I'll be flying C class I think I can just take cabin baggage which will make the transfer quicker if they can't ticket me all the way through. I've noted there are transfer counters at KLIA in the Contact Pier, so will make the dash with the Aero Train if I need to.

90 mins transit at KLIA is enough for the bags to get through. Transferring at KLIA is also very easy. MH are very generous with their cabin baggage allowance for J passengers (10kg). They have never bothered to weigh my hand luggage anyway when they know you're a J passenger.

Thanks comforting to know. I feel better about this itinerary now.

From personal experiences, no problem with connecting thru. The only problem is tht your bags will not have Star Alliance priority handling beyond KUL as MS will not stick a Priority tag during transit.

Will MH interline bags to TG?

And, additionally, if you are transitting BKK to a domestic flight, does it matter? Presumably, you have to pick them up anyhow for customs, so it may not matter much? (It certainly helps to have bags already tagged in many cities, but I don't know how BKK handles re-checking.)

Similarly, will TG interline to MH?

Yes but depends on final destination...ie HKT, USM get transferred through and customs formalities will be done there. TG will advise upon arrival in BKK that you do not need to collect bag.

TG will interline with MH. No problems.
