IsleTraveler, I'm not sure if your request was serious or not, but you are not the first to ask. I'm afraid that if this job opened up, I'd have to arm wrestle you and several other Flyer Talkers for it. Seriously though, these folks are corporate employees. Anyone wanting to apply for such a position should probably check the company web site to view current position postings at www.starwoodcareer.com.

I stayed at the Wharf April 21st for the night on a web rate of $119.00. Only one down side. I called at 1 AM on Saturday morning and spoke to Renee, the front desk manager. I wanted to check in early (9 or 10AM) and asked if they would have a vacant room not occupied that night he could preblock me into. He said he doesn't preblock and Mike would handle that request and he would pass it on to him. He said it in a very smart voice and quickly hung up the phone. I called back at 8:30 that morning and spoke to another agent who said they had a vacant room and he would set it aside although Renee didn't pass the message on as he said he would. I arrived at the hotel at 9:30 and they did have the room ready ( it was a standard room...no suites available) on the second floor with lounge privileges. The agents were very nice and the room was pretty nice also. I received my amentity during the day while I was gone. The BEST thing I loved about the hotel was NO CHARGE FOR 800 CALLS for the first 60 minutes.......only 1 of the 2 Starwood hotels to offer that in downtown SFO. At checkout, I wanted to use an SPG instant award and the manager nor agent could get in touch with SPG to see how tot process it since the center was closed. I called the Platinum line and they agent guided them through the process very efficiently. I wouldn't stay at the hotel again unless I can't get a reasonable rate at the "W" since it is indeed real touristy.

Lurker,
Just a quick note to say how impressed I am with your commitment to this board.
I am new to Starwood Hotels - most of my time to date has been spent in Hiltons, Hyatts, Le Meridians, and Intercontinentals.
I experienced my first W last night, in central New Orleans (Poydras). I simply cannot tell you how impressed I've been, both with the hotel and with the service that I received.
What are others' experiences with Ws?

MatthewClement,
It looks like the web site has developed another hiccup. Welcome to the Starwood message board at Flyer Talk, and thanks for your participation here.

Watch out how you do that making online reservations or you could end up with four rooms!

Not to keep a running log or anything, but we had a very recent experience at the W New Orleans where we had the platinum concierge request an upgrade. I spoke with the front desk the day before and was assured an upgrade would be provided if available. We arrive and are given what they said was the "Best available" which was a tiny corner room. I was told very specifically that no suites were available.
I called up SPG and was quoted a rate for the same duration as our stay for an executive suite. It took one phone call to the front desk and some shuffling, but they did give us the suite. I didn't appreciate being lied to or having to do an end around to get the upgrade. It leaves a bad taste in a customers mouth.
