Good news/Bad news/Good news

Good: got my DC card & am ready to start earning my points!

Bad: Another program to keep up with, understand and take full advantage of.

Good: I've got FT to help!

ENjoy your D-C Card, Matt. (I still cannot be broken down yet to get one... unless AMEX really makes my hair stand on end and fall out!)

Yes, it's another program to learn but there are D=C "experts" here on F-T (like Baobab I believe) to help you (as you have helped us with your travel suggestions... and kept us entertained with the ballad of the mustard pretzels!)

Diners is my card of choice and last year I earned some 20000 miles by just buying things that I had to buy anyway. But I've found it's not so widely accepted in the USA. In Scandinavia it's very widely accepted and you get 30% more points over American Express. From time to time, I've found the lounges good as well. It's perhaps less of a benefit now that the big airline alliances are offering so many reciprocal lounge benefits - at least for their elite members.

but it seems like the DC lounges are in places/terminals that the major airlines' lounges aren't, which can be helpful when you are on a weird connection.

Diners is THE SAS card (as with BA).

the lounge program is really useful in Europe and (less) in Latin America (in Rio and Sao Paulo, Brazil, it includes free "luxury-car" transfer to/from downtown).

Quite right Rudi. I have a combined SAS EuroBonus and Diners card in one. The Diners points/miles get transferred automatically to EuroBonus each month. Also, a Diners card usually costs us poor Swedish residents some SEK 525.00 (USD 65.00 approx.) a year but top tier EuroBonus gold members get theirs for free.

Catman,

If you decide to get a DC card, let me be the first to offer you a member referral application. If you want it, I'll mail it out to you.

Why him (mileageaddict) and not me? Aha - I can't, only US cardholders can. But wasn't baobab the real & heaviest insisting promoter for Diners here?

After First Card's preposterous decision to impose a 4% surcharge on foreign currency transactions I applied for a DC card. I received it yesterday and am ready to start charging!

Baobab, I gave them your details for the referral bonus. Let me know if you don't receive it.

As far as the lounges go, not only do they have good airport lounges, but they also have good business center lounges. When I was in Waikiki two weeks ago, I found the DC business lounge there (only a short walk from the Outrigger Reef on the Beach, Hilton Village, and the Preferred Hotel) very useful. I was able to get a little work done in Paradise.

the same "goes" for the business-lounges in downtown Vancouver and Frankfurt.
