Can the MCAS on AC's Boeing 737MAX8 be locked "off" by pilots?

While many of us on here are very understandably preoccupied and concerned about two major accidents with this Boeing model and are worried simply because, depending on what route we must fly, there...

Thank you SuperCargo - for the Super Quote (below)

As a 78 year old (with a 73 year old more tolerant [of AC] wife) I share your more relaxed attitude to AC's many shortcomings. And of course AC does love us oldies who are (generally) more easy going...

Wink Welcome to AC's Best SD for a qualified comment!

It's really funny to see some of the comments on here, and the fact that anyone who "wants their own way" - whether it's blinds up or down (or shades adjusted by the SD "their" way) is always being...

Shades Up Forever - but common sense should prevail, where possible!

Being in Canada (YYZ) and loving to travel to NE Asia / SE Asia / South Pacific and totally enjoying the ever changing window view and as such, always a proponent of "SHADES UP" we do try to use a...

Good point regarding point of origin

I think we're all posting based upon cooleddie's observations while on board.

We don't really know where this group started their journey; YYZ or inbound from further east perhaps.
Nor for that...

Surely the adults making the reservations also had responsibility to plan better

Not to let AC off the hook by any means, but whether one is a multi-million mile FF or an occasional random traveller surely some additional common sense is called for in winter. Looking at ACs...

This is true with large modern airliners at major airports where boarding ramps / gangways are in use.
However, there are still many cases where stairs are still used and since boarding is usually...

Oh dear, I seem to have upset someone!

I think it is just a matter of common sense that all airlines follow this practice and certainly common throughout most of the world, except possibly the US.
As to Planespotters, whatever that may...

Perhaps I should have been more specific. I am referring to the civil registration (such as C-GHPQ for fin 801) and not corporate logos.
As to Aer Lingus. I am familiar with almost every single...

Question Why does AC not have registrations appear on wing undersides?

While I know that it is optional under Canadian law I'm just wondering why Air Canada aircraft do not have identification appear on wing undersides?

I do not see any other airlines with this...

Thumbs up Thank you YXUflyboy!

Looks like it's going to be 12HK westbound and 12AC eastbound again on the 767 early fall!
If they do switch to the 788 I hope we'll be allowed to buy-up to the same seats in PY!
Travelling late...

Question So will AC9/10 767 be replaced by 788 in 2019?

Just expanding on my op question/comments, I see two possibly conflicting pieces of information and am hoping that someone much better informed than I am can help clarify.

In one case we hear that...

No specific background or references re the 777s; just personal experiences, and worse more recently.

Back in 2008 we had no problem with AC's 777s, but in the past few years it's become a real...

That's great news re AC9/10

Thank you YXUFlyboy. That is great news as we will even choose AC9/10 ex YYZ via YYC on a 767 rather than a 777 non-stop YYZ to either HND or NRT.
I appreciate that there are a lot here in the forum...

Absolutely agree: the 787 is entirely new metal superior to the 777s

I never intended in any way to imply that there was anything remotely in common between the two product lines.
What for us has been the superior aspect of the 788 and 789 is the air quality, the...

Any hope for YYZ-TYO non-stop 787 (any version) service in 2019?

It really doesn't matter HND or NRT, but connections are a hassle whether in YUL, YVR, YYC or ICN, they are even more of a pain than clamshell Y seats!

Why YYZ-TYO is stuck with the horrible...

Good Point; However, I think we can expect enhanced less welcoming scrutiny

I think we can all expect a less welcoming reception when arriving in China as a final destination or simply in transit on AC or other carriers for that matter. In fact since transiting via China...

Very appropriate here as it is likely relevant for many AC passengers

Unfortunately few Canadians seem to realise that America tends to think their laws apply to everyone worldwide, and many governments, Canada, UK and Ireland to name but a few, seem to go out of their...

More details re Lion Flight JT610's accident

From the time take-off was first recorded on radar at an altitude of 350ft at 232110 UTC approximately 50 radar "hits" appear over a period of 10 minutes 35 seconds. The first apparent anomaly...

Another 777 factor that may be relative

Some on here are unfamiliar with the early days (circa 1908) of AC's 777s, back when 18AB were humane and much sought after, the flights were generally comfortable and air quality good.

While we...

Check out Flight-Tracker playback function

It appears that the JT610 flight took off at 2321UTC and reached a maximum altitude of 5,375ft at 2326UTC while still over Jakarta. After this it continued on course for five more minutes, during...

So, should Southwest cancel at OP's convenience?

I don't think so!
If he/she makes a habit of multiple overlapping bookings there are going to be cancellations and possible consequences when the system picks them up. For that matter OP also runs...

Thumbs down $60K a year; big deal. What's the value of all the seats you cancelled, I wonder?

Very obviously you're getting little sympathy on here, and quite frankly I concur!

You seem to have an enhanced sense of entitlement and go making overlapping reservations at will with no regard...

OP and several respondents must be from the UK

And "thank you" FrogTastic; your comments are oh so true.

But in this thread and with the use of the "MUM" spelling I think it comes as huge shock to many of us from the "polite side of the pond"...

Question Has anyone used Iberia to Melilla (MLN) the Spanish Enclave in N. Africa

We've just become aware of the existence of this Spanish Territory which is technically in Morocco.
Looks like there is an air service between Madrid and Melilla, routed with a stop in Malaga.
