And who's to say which food smell is ok and which is offensive? Chicken fingers are ok but no McD's? Pizza is ok but Chinese food isn't? I can understand the blanket "no outside food allowed" rule.

I'm pretty sure the club is still under construction/being remodeled. It's crowded under normal circumstances, so I would guess that they're limiting who can come in due to the construction.
