Not exactly, but I went the other direction and upgraded from the $95 card to the $450 exec card and it kept the same account. I was under the impression you could do the same in the other direction.

I've tried to do this as well, and also gotten 2 (maybe even 3) different answers. I think the prevailing wisdom is that unless it's AA metal and ticketed on AA , you can't upgrade with AA miles.
