Anyone here fly on their own dime

1K on my own dime, going to end up with over 125,000 PQM and $12,038 PQD (I track my spending religiously). I also travel internationally 3-5 times a year, so the 6 one-way global premier upgrades...

Seat poaching and taking advantage

This jerk poached my seat on United and had the nerve to tell me 4A was an aisle seat because that's what it was on Alaska. So I popped open seat guru and showed him A meant window seat, even on AS.

Flight to Australia

I'll assume you'll be flying to/from Sydney. If you prefer window, I'd choose the right side of the plane (facing the cockpit). Take-off is most likely to the north and you'll get a spectacular view...

Emirates has 26 new aircraft planning to enter service this year. They have to fly them somewhere. PTY is an odd choice since Emirates isn't part of Star Alliance, and I don't believe it has code...

I'd ask the gate agent or flight attendant first. Not sure about AA. On United if you wish to sit in an economy plus seat (exit rows included) they ask you to contact a gate agent who will be happy...

In a June survey published in the Sydney Morning Herald 68% of Australians (86% aged 18-24) surveyed support marriage equality. That's even higher than in the U.S. It's a beautiful country. Enjoy.

Pack list for international business travel - please share ideas

Small alcohol pads (swabs). I use them to disinfect TV remotes, phones, door handles and light switches. They cost about $5 for a box of 100 at many pharmacies.

IIRC the signs on the tray tables and overhead bins read "Reserved for Economy Plus," the key word being "reserved." If I went into a restaurant and saw "reserved" on the table, I probably wouldn't...

UA: LAS⇄BWI $202 ai rt 4.0-4.4 cpm (still in December 2014)

I booked for January for slightly higher, $249 because I wanted a later departure on the return. Good fare.
