You're fine in the lower floor area around the restaurants, the aquarium etc but you cannot go upstairs into the 'guest' areas unless you have a pass. It's worth a visit. Amazing place.

I live in Qatar but later this month I have to visit Dubai. I am a British passport holder but a Qatari resident. I will fly via Oman for the trip.

Thanks for the advice all. Paid at the gate both ways got upgraded to World Traveller Plus for about 200GBP. Was well worth the cost, able to sleep there and back. A good upgrade!

Just come back yesterday evening, for the record quite a few bars were open and happily selling alcohol. There were no live bands / loud music however but apart from that it was pretty normal.
