I would like to book a few week stay in a typical English village with 2 Pubs but no homicides ala Midsomer Murders. :D. AirBnB are no help. Is there other sites exclusive for such bookings.

The poll seems skewed in that many of those polled probably have only experienced 1 or 2 airline and the overall majority would be US based so RyanAir is really an unknown to most.

These types of trips (quick turn around) are just a big risk if there is a delay due to weather. You need to factor that into your arrangments. Previous posts have endeth the lesson.

I would look for BA flights out of New York or Boston. I know it is a pain but BA across the pond in either direction is usually available quite late. I did LHR-BOS in 2 F seats only a few months out.

I concur.
I doubt if there is widespread scamming on cabs. I found them cheap and quick to get to destination. A combination of subway and cab is best way of getting around.

In June 2012 we were upgraded on points both ways...
In June 2012 we were upgraded on points both ways on QF15/16 from PE. We were both Bronze. Came through day before the flights.
In September 2013 I was in J but flight QF15 was full on a Sunday....
