I've had GE for 1 1/2 year and I'm batting 1.000...

See another thread on FT entitled "TSA Pre-check for permanent residents who already have Global Entry?" As another poster said, this summer LPRs with GE should be good to go thru PreCheck.

I think that is why that IAH-DEN are being used as a trial run to make sure the 787 is airworthy. Then on June 10th, that aircraft will be used for the DEN-NRT runs.

It is likely because MSN does not have PreCheck capability. In my experience, I got PreCheck clearance for DEN-MLI but not MLI-DEN because MLI does not have PreCheck. I didn't even have an option...

The name printed on the ticket does not necessarily have to match Secure Flight Data's name. I have been 100% PreCheck even though the ticket had LAST/FIRSTMI but Secure Data shows LAST/FIRST MIDDLE.

If you haven't applied for Global Entry yet, then you can use the invitation from Mileage Plus to get prechecks. Once you get GE, then TSA will have the data and know that you are a non-US citizen...

LH uses 747 on FRA-DEN and BA also uses 747 on LHR-DEN. So the calculation of flight loads is not the issue unless there were going to be a lot of heavy freight used for the transpacific routes.
