The Q400 were an increase in capacity. The ERJs are tiny. When they switched over to LCY, they used a mix of aircraft (ERJs, Fokker 50, Q400). I regularly saw them when departing LCY.

I doubt that taxi will be cheaper. If price and speed are your sole criteria, then nothing beats the combo District/Piccadilly Line. It's 3.1 off-peak/5.1 on-peak and takes about 45 to 50 minutes....
