If they were to switch to purely spend-based status they will need to find an alternate solution to people residing outside the USA. Currently they are exempt from the MQD requirement.

I'm happy to pay the half of a round-trip fare difference in addition to the change fee. What doesn't make sense is that changing the origin for the return requires it to be repriced as a one-way.
