I would definitely pay the cash. 50K miles or less can get you a transcon RT in F, or an offpeak RT to Europe, Asia or deep South America in Y.

No comment. However, you are doing the smart and conservative thing by not relying on AA's ancient legacy computer systems. Remember, this is the airline that takes 4 days to post flight mileage. :)
