many cases, it is hard coded in the aa system, and an agent wouldn't be able to override

Currently, the category-6 travel package requires 390,000 points for redemption which allows me to transfer 100,000 miles to a wide choice of airlines.

I don't buy it. Rates around Oct go around $250. I don't think this property qualifies for NC7 or NC8. 2 or 3 days stay might be good, but 7 days are no go for me.

I am pretty sure I will be able to find availability. If not, I can request extension, so I am good in either situation.

I don't think finding 7 reward nights is difficult unless you look at St regis maldives or bora bora.
Of course, my priority will be those properties, but I can also be happy with other good ones.

I didn't find NC6 hotels I really want to stay for 7 nights. But there are many ones at category...

In fact, I agree with that. Without the 1:3 conversion policy, we weren't able to see the surge of lots of floating 7 night certificates in the last few months.
Marriott was also very generous...

No, categoriy 9 holders cannot be an exception. If Marriott changes their decisions on upgrade/downgrade they already announced, everyone regardless of which category he possesses must be treated...

Some folks were able to downgrade cat8 to NC5 successfully with 30k refunds. Some agents are of knowledgeable than others. Just you need some HUCA.
