Styrofoam meal boxes

SAS make a big deal about being environmentally aware and tell us that their 737's don't pollute as much as other planes and blah blah blah.....

Why, oh why do they then serve the economy class meals in styrofoam boxes? Wouldn't it make more sense to use cardboard boxes or paper bags that could be easily recycled?

I asked a steward about this on my last flight and was told that the leftovers from meal-serving are not recycled at all.

Even if the packaging is not recycled, paper and cardboard break down faster in a landfill than styofoam.

I actually used one of those styrofoam meal boxes to store two jars of caviar I bought at SVO. And on my connecting flight to the U.S., I asked a flight attendant to keep the the box chilled in the fridge.

These things are hard-core sturdy boxes, I thought maybe they reused them ... guess not.
