Default seat assignment

Does someone know how the SAS computer assigns seats? On a recent trip with a connection within Scandinavia on a fully flexible business class ticket I did not have a pre-assigned seat. At check-in the computer gave me 30E on an MD-80. I asked for a seat further forward, and got an aisle seat in one of the first few rows instead. 30E on an MD-80 has to be one of the least preferred seats in the entire cabin, middle seat with your ear stuck up against the engine. Why does SAS default to giving these seats to full-fare paying customers when much nicer seats are available? Accident or faulty programming?

The default seat assignment starts giving away seats from the last row. Very starnge programming, but thats the logic in SK,BD & LH (all use the same s/ware I guess)
