One baggage check for separate SK and AA tickets?

I have a ticket on SAS LLA-ARN-LHR that puts me in London at 16:35, and then I have a separate ticket on AA LHR-JFK that leaves at 18:30. Can SAS check in my bags all the way through to JFK?

If not, and I must claim and re-check luggage, how fast is SAS luggage delivery at LHR? I obviously don't have much time, if the SAS flight is late or if luggage is delayed I am screwed... If you have relevant experiences with SAS in LHR, please share.

Thanks!

In my experience, the interline checking of bags works well even between airlines from different alliances. The SAS staff should be able to check your bags through to JFK.

but make sure you let AA know that your baggage number, otherwise they always get left in LHR.... as mine did... even it was on a BD/LH flight transfer onto an SQ flight
