Transfer Tips at ARN?
This should really be on the ARN site, but there are no recent posts there so I'm taking the liberty of asking you friendly SAS experts here for some advice.
Mrs. Fredd and I are transferring at ARN this Friday for the short flight to KLR. We're flying LH from YVR-FRA and then SK to ARN on *A bus. award tix, so we'll be somewhat tired by then. We arrive in Terminal 5 at 2:15 and leave from Terminal 4 at 4:30 p.m. We are checking one piece of luggage and didn't know the wedding we are attending is near KLR so we bought the KLR flight separately from the award - we would ask them to check it through but are assuming we have to claim it and go through Customs and Immigration at ARN when we land - Correct? According to the map it looks like a fairly leisurely stroll from #5 to #4. Will we have to go through security and will we have time to stop at an ATM and visit a lounge? We usually don't worry too much about such details but we will have to pick up our rental car once we land at KLR, drive for an hour, and find our hotel, so it's a minor marathon and any tips to ease our transfer will be greatly appreciated as we have to be rested enough to enjoy a wonderful Swedish wedding celebration starting Saturday afternoon! Tack så mycket http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Welcome to the SAS FT board and to SAS, Fredd!
Regarding the baggage at ARN - Yes, you will have to collect the baggage when arriving at ARN and take it with you to Terminal 4 where you will have to check it in again (or if you've already checked it through, you'll just have to drop it off at the baggage drop in T4). The walk is really not that long, and you should be in no rush whatsoever. There are several ATM's in both T5 and T4, so that should also work out fine. There is a security check in T4 as well, but this is usually a breeze around that time. And then there is the SK Stockholm Lounge which I think is open for *G as well (it says so on the *A homepage). It was quite a while since I used that one, but then it was usually packed and not that great (as it was also available for SK Silver members before), but again - around that time it should be OK. T4 is otherwise quite dull and only has a few stores with rip-off prices and a food court... Hope you have great SK flights and enjoy the wedding! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Thank you Point_Chaser! Our oldest spent a year in Sweden on a Rotary Exchange ten years ago while the daughter of her host parents (the bride-to-be) was on this side of the pond. You have no idea how much we are looking forward to returning for such a joyous occasion, and I appreciate the prompt and reassuring info. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

And if one Kalmarite isn't enough to answer all the questions you might have, I was also born and raised there. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Enjoy your stay!

Since you have so much time to kill then you might want to spend some time in the T5 lounge before picking up your bags. It's probably much nicer than the domestic lounge in T4. It's up the stairs (on your right if you arrive at gates 1-8 on the A pier) just before you walk down to baggage. Overall, T4 is quite busy and cramped.
