Any upgrade experiences in NRT? Is it the same gate annoyance, or any chance asking at check-in or lounge?
Good news: no gate hassle. I asked at check-in, and after a brief call to her supervisor, the agent gave me the new boarding pass and the point reduction paper to sign. This was about 1.5 hours before departure time, so I don't know if it had been possible if cheking in earlier; I think my boarding number was 223 or something like that. Drawback of full C, probably many upgrades (I saw a paper on check in counter with '33' in C column, which I assume was the number of originally booked passangers; Y&M were full) was maybe that at both meal servings, they only had one option left when they got to row 7... and I must say the food was quite disappointing, no wonder all the other choices had been picked up earlier... Also the IFE was broken and so was the espresso machine :( But I still appreciate the nice few hours nap I managed to take. |
A while ago someone reported that you could make your upgrades at the transferdesk instead of at the gate at ARN. Is this still the case?
|
Yes, point upgrades at ARN are handled at CI or at the SAS/Star Alliance service desk in the F pier, not at the gate. They don´t even check any Boarding passes anymore at the gate podium, just lets anyone in the departure lounge board as they wish as papers has been checked by security when entering the gate area.
Havn´t actually got a clue as to how they handle late minute op-ups with this system. Maybe they PA passenger names from the podium as it is still manned. |

Ok, I can now answer this myself. Had to use points this time, and was lucky to get the last seat in C (I was checking in a bit late). Flight showed zeros in M but Y and C were at 9s. I noticed there were a few empty seats in Y.
When was this? |

Going from NRT to where?

Faxed IAD a letter with my info and a request to upgrade my brother in law this week. He was carrying the original with him and just got an upgrade to Y+. C was no longer available as he had arrived late at the gate (UX was late again).
The flights was overbooked in M, so I guess he got an op-up as all M seats were taken when he arrived at the gate ;). Lets see what they deduct from my account. |
