RCC Lounge access for SK *G on UA Domestic?
There's a bit of debate in a thread I started in the UA forum about whether I and a guest will be allowed into UA's RCC at ORD while traveling on a domestic ticket on UA. The full details can be found here:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=642450
I'd like to hear the experiences of other SK members on this issue. If you were flying UA/UA domestic (not as part of an international itinerary), did they give you lounge access to the RCC just on the basis of your SK *G status? Considering how many contradicting answers I got in the thread above, which is full of people who visit the RCC every day, then I'm concerned the lounge matrons will deny me because they are equally confused.

Don't worry
The problem is that because MP members do not get RCC access w/o int'l tickets, some MP members are not aware that other *G do get access.
If you compare the sites for the different programs, you'll see how only the UA site (and the US site?) stipulate that you need an int'l ticket for entry--the others say that UA/US *G need an international ticket, or do not mention it at all.
Put simply, don't worry. You are allowed access, with guest (as long as you are ticketed on a *A flight). I've had no problems with my ANA card, so I can't imagine you'll have any trouble either.

You have access as *G (the confusions arises as *G from UA, US and AC do not have access unless they have a paid membership or are on an international itin).
The question you really want to ask is: What do I want to do in a RCC?
In most places I by far prefer to go to a restaurant or similar (or the hotel equivalent if Airport hotel is on the premises as in ORD). RCC have IMHO very little to offer - apart from an apple and a coke. Usually worn down, crowded and with no food or snacks worth mentioning.

Breakfast contains bagels, OJ, various cream cheeses, yogurt and fruit (always bananas). The rest of the day there's plenty of nuts, chips, fruit and various cheese and crackers. Of course, it's not what Scandinavians are used to, but by US standards, the RCCs at ORD are just fine.
If he doesn't want to go landside and have to deal with getting through security at one of the worlds largest airports, I would go to the very crowded food court in the C concourse if he's hungry and go straight to the RCC. There's is a huge shortage of seating in the few (crappy) restaurants at ORD T1.
And like many of the other posters have said: EBG gets you access to the lounge anytime, even on domestic flights + one guest. That's the main reason why I keep my EBG so I can get free access on my many, many domestic flights in the US

While it is great they have them spread out with one withing 10 minutes of most gates, the one in B north is superior to B south. If LH is leaving from B that lounge is a mess.
The major hub RCCs have upgraded snacks a little recently. I have seen vegie trays with dips and cheese and crackers. I really liked that they finaly stocked the refrigerators at IAD with limited soft drinks so you didnt have to go to the bar just for your free coke or juice. They will never match the international departure US clubs though but they do not have USA domestic entrance.
Was at CO Presidents club at EWR 2 days ago and while they have free booze their snacks were worse than recent RCC experience. They did have great shower rooms, family rooms with tv's and a lounge style tv room with theater seating.

...and, as I recall, (about 6 months ago) free wireless internet access - correct?

So true.
We really should not have to be more informed than the lounge staff, but that's what it comes to.
Courtesy of another FTer, I've attached the admit rules for RCCs above. Being armed with information is a good way to battle the lounge dragons -- too bad it comes to this.

I'm amazed how you got hold of that chunks of official texts! Seems like they're taken off the lounge assistant's computer!
