Upgrade procedure at IAD?
Anyone know the SOP at IAD re upgrading with points or $$$? I haven't had to deal with upgrades on this route in the past.
Can it be done at check-in? I just booked the ticket for next Thurs and it's wide open in all booking classes but no non-middle eco seats could be assigned. Maybe they will be nice and expedite the process? One reason that I am asking is because I was thinking of going over to check-in around 14:00 and then zip home to watch most of Man City - Arsenal and then return and rush to the gate. But that's not a good plan if I have to negotiate an upgrade to Y+ or C at the gate. p.s. I am flying CPH-LHR later the next day. An upgrade doesn't include the connection? I wouldn't think so. p.p.s. Can I check in online the CPH-LHR leg within the 22 hour window when I hold a CPH-IAD-LHR ticket? Obviously can't do online check-in for the first leg. |

I guess you mean the LHR-CPH leg or??? Supporting Man C or boring, boring Arsenal? ;) |
you can checkin for the CPH-LHR and LHR-CPH leg online 22h before departure. ORD was selling M->C upgrades for 450USD this week at checkin.

About a month ago IAD check-in person offered me an upgrade for about 400 USD (or could it have been 450?)... The funny thing was that I was in C to begin with. No, SK still doesn't offer first class service, I was informed :p

More complications....... I found out yesterday that I might have to be in Boston in the morning. So I will take a flight back to IAD at 13:00.
I tried to call IAD at 703-572-3180 but no answer....... So I can probably head straight to the lovely NW lounge and check in there and negotiate upgrade if UA can't check me in at Logan? I imagine that it will be open with SK staff by 14:30? So the rule is cash at check-in and points at the gate. |
From memory the NW is not staffed by SK workers (you need to get an invite from the gate). The procedure which at least was fine last year was that the gate is open and staffed as soon as checkin opens (3 hours before) which handles transfers, lounge invites and also upgrades.

The NW is not staffed with SK personel - you need to be at the gate. I have not been there earlier than 3pm at which it has been staffed. If there is inventory they will upgrade you on points (only EuroBonus points that is). It can not hurt to ask about the cash option.

FYI, no upgrades for sale today........ Too bad because I could have expensed it. Flight is 9s in all classes of travel so probably a light load and that probably means nothing for sale. Well, they couldn't assign me an aisle seat in eco..... Maybe not oversold by 70. (Trust me I have seen the real data.....)
Got an older Danish lady checking me in so no hope for flexibility but they will give me a BP when I return to the g |
