Checking luggage for multi-segment on two separate tickets?

Hi!

I'am planning a trip to singapore in oct/nov this year. Cos I have heard alot of good things about SIA from alot of ppl ;-)

So i thought i would try it out this time, but to keep the cost down i thinking about buying the trip from Göteborg/Jönköping, Sweden to Singapore on two separate tickets from two different agents/airlines.

One tickets for the segment Göteborg/Jönköping - Paris/London via copenhagen with SAS. And one ticket for the segment Paris/London<->Singapore with SIA.

The stopover time in Paris or London will be 1-2hours.

My questions is simple, will SAS be able checkin my luggage at Jönköping/Gothenburg the whole way to Singapore even if i have one tickets for Jönköping/Gothenburg->Copenhagen->Paris/London and other tickets for Paris->Singapore?
Or must i take out my luggage at Paris and then checkin it again with SIA?

Both SIA and SAS are members of Star Alliance and it is only 3 flights so technical they should be able to checking in the luggage the whole way to Singapore and back to Göteborg/Jönköping but will they refuse todo so cos i bought my trip on two separate tickets?

People who have experience on flying on two different tickets, which is you are min recommended stop over time? During peak-seasons and non-peak-seasons?

Kind regards

Hey,

SK will be able to check your luggage through to your destination, but you probably have to check in for a boarding pass at the service centre at your connecting airport. Make sure you have at least 2 hours connection time, a little delay, you may miss your connection and SK may force you to buy a ticket.... I dont know how strict SQ are.

Like many have said before, 2 separate tickets may be trouble. I recommend you to pay a little extra to get on the same itinerary, you will then have no responsibility if you miss a connection

Unfortunately, I've seen many people not having their luggage checked through to the final destination when travelling on different tickets. Due to the new rules on passenger rights, the airlines will not take the chance of being responsible for anything else than their very own part of the trip.

But maybe you will be lucky when all airlines in your trip belong to the same alliance.

I did it just a few weeks ago, flying FRA-OSL on LH, I had a different booking on SK, OSL-TOS a few hours later. Worked like a charm, they put TOS on my bag without even asking.

Im flying OSL-CPH-MAN on Wednesday on an SK ticket, then MAN-ORD on BMI after a few hours. Im sure it will work, but I will check back and tell you how it went.

Like you say, since its *A, it will work just fine

in april, i had a problem with my alitalia flight to ATH via MXP, it was cancelled. I have been rebooked on SK to FRA and then on OA to ATH. SK tagged my luggage directly through Athens, I had to check in in FRA for the second leg.

I was flying SK MMX-ARN & SK ARN-HEL on two seperate tickets a year ago and they specifically told me not check-through unless on one ticket.. No luck there...
