Missing Middle Name

I swear I entered my middle name when I created an account and made the booking but just noticed my middle name is no where to be found. In the app when I try to add my middle name to the `Passport details` section, it seems to save but when I reopen the details page, the middle name is gone.

In addition, when I go to my profile settings there isn't even an option to enter a middle name.

Is it ok for my middle name to be missing?

"Your name must include all last names and first (given) name (given name in Sweden equal to "tilltalsnamn"). It is not needed to include all given names from the passport."

From systems perspective, it is best to have FirstName 1st (If you have multiple).

E.g. if my name is Thor Loki Odinsson (Where Thor is my "real" first name, then ticket only needs Thor Odinsson) .

If first "real" name was Loki, then there could be issues with other airlines/immigration, but SAS wouldn't care if ticket said Loki Odinsson.

It doesn't matter if you enter them or not, it will not cause any issues when traveling. This might not hold true for VISAs or mismatching VISA details (i.e. your doesn't have the middle names).

In thousands of flights I've never entered my middle names on any passport detail page and with the exception of some Asian countries (years ago) it has never been issue. It wasn't an issue there either, the ground staff just added them to the system.

Name correction for same person

It is permitted for SAS offices and Travel Agents to make a name correction for same person.

Note: Not applicable for group reservations

Name correction is allowed for an issued and unused SK/117 ticket booked on SK/WF operated flights with SK/WF-prefix in the carrier box.

Name correction not required

When booked on SK operated flights in the following cases:
  • Infant on domestic travel in Denmark, Norway and Sweden
  • If the double surname is written together, such as LindOlsson instead of Lind Olsson
  • If written JOHANSON instead JOHANSSON
  • If “Å” is written as "A” instead of "AA" (same with Ä and Ö)

Name correction required

Name correction is required when travelling to below countries:

Great Britain and the United States

Misspelled name in ticket with other airlines

Check via an Availability display if there are seats available in the booking classes and flights the passenger is booked on

If seats available, make a new identical reservation with the correct name. Enter the original ticket number and reissue ticket.

Name correction is free of charge when

  • name is misspelled
  • adding infant, inserting infant name or correction of infant name
  • change of first/middle name to last name or v.v.
  • change of order of first names
  • change of order of last names
  • changing title to/from MR, MS or MX
  • due to technical/space limitations on SAS web sites
  • changing, adding or removing date of birth (youth)
  • Passenger only holding family name, who has made reservation online, where website requires both first name and family name.

Note: Adding infant, inserting infant name or correction of infant name on SK code share flights must be checked on OAL.

Name correction is not free of charge when

  • adding or removing any name
  • change of nickname to correct first name
  • name correction is needed because of marriage or divorce
  • name correction when passenger has written his/ her own name twice in same reservation instead of travel companion
Note: If ticket not yet issued, agent may correct name without charge.
In general, not adding your middle name to the PNR name field doesn't bother anyone. The full details for international travel purposes (visa check etc) are captured in the APIS/DOCS field during checkin.

Or any other airline except Egypt Air.

In my case my name is Loki Odinsson and my passport would say Thor Loki Odinsson - I use it on all my FFP and my tickets - no issues whatsoever except with Egypt Air.

If this is how it's written in the passport, then by definition your "first name" is "Thor", and thus the only appropriate shorter form is "Thor Odinsson". That any airline accepts essentially a "middle + last name" is certainly nice of them, but def. not expected.

I never have that issue except with Egypt Air. I have flown with so many airlines and never have an issue. I should have removed those irritating first names when I got married but I forgot to do that. Now it's not a good time because I don't want to replace my driver license (I have one that doesn't have to be replaced until I turn 70).
