It was sent to everyone. I'm US based and received it even though I don't even have enough EB points on my account presently.

Fair enough and good catch. I will revise.

"A plane filled to the brim with people all likely to choose the same few hotels sounds awful 😬"

Many years ago QANTAS used to do mystery flights. They were top fun, you paid a certain amount and it included accomodation and you did not know where you were going until you got your boarding pass. I did a few and ended up in a few capital cities around Australia.

I looked at this one and two things stopped me.
1. accomodation, what happens if you dont find any? the QANTAS mystery flights included accomodation.
2. its from CPH, I am not there, I am up in ARN
3 30,000 points can get you a long way and I think these flights will be only in Europe? Maybe only in nordics. Seems expensive if thats the case.

I would love to see the old mystery flights return, put your money on the table and spin the wheel. I guess its much harder in Europe as its all different countries rather than one big land but it should be possible to make mystery flights that cover even USA if you make the conditions that you must have visa to enter.

I am sure the Qantas ones would have had point 2 as well. I am in AYQ the flights are from ...
The US would be an issue if you only get the notice a day in advance, not everyone has an ESTA. But just give a bit more leeway. Either the 30K does cover a bit more than flights, or it kind of will need to be a rather long European flight with enhanced Plus service.

In the QANTAS you booked your mystery flight from the airport of you choice, so I would always book Canberra and usually ended up in Sydney but one was Brisbane, and Townville. The SAS one is only from CPH but I hope they would expand it as I like the idea.

I cannot get a ESTA, only a visa if I want to travel to USA so I would need to either exclude it or have time to get it.

Still, I hope they expand this idea cause I think its fun.

So quite similar to JAL's Dokoka ni mairu. You request a discounted mileage trip, and then get a random domestic destination. Though JAL does not include accommodation. I like the concept, and you can almost always find cheap accommodation in Japan, if you are not too picky. Though I have yet to use it.

Seems they still exist in Australia with even asian destinations included.

I don't see anywhere that checked bags are included.

Intra-EU Y is 30k, and if it is EB only, then bound to be s/h aircraft. Maybe I am cynical but this is nothing but a marketing stunt - I am sure service onboard will be more Plus-like but the prospect of this is fairly horrifying (to me). I assume it will also be to a destination that has significant available hotel capacity. But imagine some length to flights, maybe PMI as it'll be a bit of winter sun?

I assume someone (as I guess it'll many be flight geeks) will start checking destinations where SK has filed an additional flight.

And whilst initially I thought this was a liability exercise it would hardly make a dent on the books...

Yes, with Plus Bonus I can go where I want for 30k return, so the idea of going where SK want me to go for the same amount is not particularly tempting.

I’ll be curious to see how this plays out. For a 4 day trip it’s obviously not too long of a flight… that said they have an opportunity to surprise and delight, whether it’s destination or service or something else. If it ends up just being no different in experience and price than any other intra-EU flight, it seems like it will be a bit of a flop.

Those of you who book this, don't forget to look up the destination in TIMATIC well in advance in case you need to get a visa.

There is precisely 0% possibility this flight is outside the Schengen Zone (or in a country that requires a visa for EU citizens). There is also a very strong likelihood it's an existing SK destination (because the a/c will surely be backfilled with a normally scheduled flight on the inbound of the outbound and the inbound of the outbound... if you get what I mean.)

Exactly my thoughts - it must be a flight within Europe where EU passport holders don't need a visa to get there, so the US is a no go.

Japan/BKK can be possible and minimal accommodation is needed and it would be too short to be hit by jetlag :D (but this is too good to be true though - 30k doesn't get you far with normal redemption with SK).
