This wiki-post is to keep an overview over the equipment used and services offered by Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) across their complete network, both short-haul (Europe) and long-haul (Intercontinental), including the different regular and temporary wet-lease operators which fly for SAS.
The goal of this wiki is to give you a point of information on what you can expect on your flight and which operators, routes or equipment to keep an eye out for, which airplanes and operators may perhaps be nicer or bettern than others and which specific aircraft, operators or routes to potentially avoid. The idea is to prevent any surprises when stepping on board and prepare you for your flight, so you can approach it with appropriate expectations.
The whole wiki is a work in progress! Feel free to contribute!

On short haul routes, which includes all flights within Europe, SAS offers two distinct travel classes: SAS Go and SAS Plus.
All short haul planes are configured with all Economy seating. SAS Plus is located at the front of the plane and is a mix of european Business Class and Premium Economy, as it includes a free snacks and drinks, lounge access, free wifi and more. SAS Go on the other hand is the standard Economy cabin which fills the rest of the planes.

Wifi is available on all A320 family aircraft (with a few exceptions). Wifi is not available on CRJ-900s and ATR72-600, as well as any wet leased aircraft.
Service
Service on SAS is described as consistently inconsistent with reports from mediocre to outright fabulous crews.
UK based SAS Connect crews appear have the best standing, while wet-lease crews are hit or miss, due to the unfamiliarity with the SAS onboard service and process.

I’ll admit O&D isn’t ATL’s strong point based on having to re-enter the airport after the random summer thunderstorm misconnect made me have to leave the airport for a hotel for a night. It’s been something of an afterthought to the higher priority of making connecting on a SkyTeam ticket relatively straightforward despite their huge daily head county.

I have flown long haul on SAS in March 2023, June 2023, October 2023, and now March 2024. Every time, despite different origin/destination, I have had the luck of getting the wifi less SE-REH. One time had a family emergency during the flight.

Which route changes can we speculate may happen when the alliance switch happens? I don't think I have seen any official comments on it but there are bound to be some changes, especially long-haul destinations dependent on feeder flights from partner airlines.
With the change from UA to DL hub destinations, I imagine all EWR flights will go to JFK instead. ATL has already been announced. Could ORD and IAD also disappear in favour of SEA and more BOS? What about routes to ICN, TPE, or SGN? Could HND and BKK be threatened? I know that nobody who actually knows anything will be writing it here but I'm interested in your thoughts

That being said, domestic Thailand they can just jump on the bandwagon of using Bangkok Airways like almost any foreign carrier flying BKK. Domestic Japan I am sure they can get an agreement with JANA to keep selling tickets to domestic destinations.

SK is the second largest non-US commerical airliner out of EWR (behind only AC); whereas JFK SK is basically a fly on the wall. I would think SK might deliberately slow play the NY market, especially with its not so good financial state...there are a lot of goodwill built at EWR. SK has captured the NY-Scandinavian markets largely without much connecting traffic from the US side - overall O/D (origin/destination) pax for EWR is running about 80% for last year; JFK is slightly behind at around 75% O/D for 2023.

T7 JFK is basically full with AS anchoring the terminal and about 10 other non-US carriers, including SK. Might make most sense moving to T4 (DL/KL), even without any additional flights, but doubt T4 is running much excess gate spaces either, if any. A new T1 is being constructed, so wouldn't make much sense to move to the current T1, where AF operates.

SK will operate two daily JFK-CPH flights this coming summer (albeit with the smaller A321LRs instead of the one A333). They even got much better slots (a 5:10pm and 7:10pm departure instead of the current 11:20pm). Also, they will be moving to T1 with the new summer schedule; T1 is a dreadful terminal currently (worse than T7) but for those who qualify for lounge access I guess it will be a slight improvement as they should be able to use the AF lounge.

AF has a partnership with QF, while KL has with MH. It's entirely possible for SK to continue their partnership with other airlines than the current AF/KL partners. SK has had a close relationship with TG since they helped found the Thai flag carrier in 1960, and they could easily continue that partnership after their Star exit.

Tonight, 7-Apr/8-Apr, there appears to be an equipment swap as A321neoLR SE-DMS arrives in EWR from OSL before it operates SK904 EWR-ARN. Tomorrow, A333 LN-RKO is schedule to operate SK903 ARN-EWR.
According to the (generally reliable) data on FlightRadar24, LN-RKO appears to have been in Istanbul since February. Perhaps I missed this - but what has been happening there? Maintenance?
