Seat blocking for Gold
As far as I know, SAS tries to block seat next to gold members in SAS Plus as long as there is a space. Is this also available in SAS Go, or is it purely a Plus benefit?
Thanks :) |
I haven't flown go in a while but it definitely used to be the case.
|
Great, thanks!
|
I did fly intraEurope yesterday in Plus and the seat next to me was blocked. From what I can see it is the same on my return flight this Saturday. Can remember that the seat has been blocked in Go ever for me..
|
Nothing like being an SAS *G squeezed into a middle SAS Plus seat on a full section intra-Europe. Or is that era over now? :D
SAS is better about seat-blocking for its elites than the the US3 airlines. |
SAS uses the Amadeus Altea DCS with theoretical seating. It seems they took over the 'block the seat beside EBD/EBG/*G' logic when they customised/adopted the *A CITP. So in all classes the seat beside the elite is kept free if possible.

Thanks guys. Does this work on ATRs / CRJs as well? :)

I've had very mixed experiences this year. Not very full flights with middle seat occupied by non-elites multiple times, as EBD. A relative EBG had the only free seat in Go next to them, so YMMV
|
It's my impression (a pure speculation by watching how free seats distribute) that the blocked seat is accessible to other EBG/EBD members. So if you seat in front of the Y cabin, it is quite likely that one of them will sit next to you, to be in the front. (besides this, I think airport agents also seem to make random overwrites - pure guessing). I think I had best luck with seat blocking with selecting seats a few rows after the "curtain". Not sure if this is just my impression, or is there any hard knowledge behind it.

From my experiences, they won't touch the seat next to you unless the flight is packed and you are the unlucky elite
|
My experience has been that the seat block is "harder" to the right of the elite than to the left. Often when we book, SAS puts my husband on the left and me on the right. When we look at the seatmap at https://eurobonusexpert.com/seatmap the middle seat is available. If we switch around so I am on the left, the middle seat is blocked.
Me: EB Diamond. Husband: EB Gold. Also, I've noted that most seats are available for me as EBD - when my husband loads the seatmap on his account, a lot of seats that are available for me (like middle seats in Plus) are blocked from him. The harder block to the right seems bizarre though. Maybe my imagination? |
That website shows some weird stuff. This is what my tomorrow's flight looks like:
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...2c19bae1c1.jpg All the yellow seats (or most of them) are available in SAS app / on their website. I can hardly see SAS blocking most rows just for the sake of it. |
This is theorectical seating in action. Sadly the CITP youtube video by LH on that topic has been taken private :(

For some future far out flights I thought I'd check if seats were blocked next to me and my EBG companions. However, on not one of the six flights (which are all basically empty in Plus rn) are any of the adjecent seats blocked. I checked by trying to make a new booking (while not being looged in) up until the seat map is shown. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong...
