I note that Thompson Aero's website says "the cabin configuration staggers the seats within the cabin, alternating rows of double and throne seats on each side of the aisle" – so yes, some clarity needed. I'll ping Thompson to ask about this, although the firm is usually very reticent to speak on what clients are doing.

That's the standard, what the former BMI birds with BA has, Jetblue Mint etc. Maybe SAS just want to pretend they have a custom layout....

I was checking award travel availability on the TravelHacks site and thought to check when seats would be available on the A359. I have no way of knowing how closely the availability of award travel matches the actual maiden voyages on each route, but until further notice, it seems that we can expect the following for initial award travel:
2020-01-28 CPH-ORD and ORD-CPH
2020-03-01 CPH-PEK and PEK-CPH
2020-03-29 CPH-EWR

2020-03-30 EWR-CPH
2020-06-10 CPH-PVG and CPH-NRT
2020-07-10 CPH-HKG

I haven't taken the time to try to figure out how many or which days per week per route this might indicate, but from what I can see, ORD, PEK, and EWR should see fairly regular A359 service from the dates shown above, with PVG, NRT, and HKG seeming to be much more sporadic.

I think it's interesting to see that SK plans to use an A350 on the late CPH-EWR rotation. I wasn't aware there were this high demand on the late rotation. My impression was it wer going to be served by one of the A321-LR once they arrive.

It's fairly popular but it's probably an operational decision since CPH-ORD/PEK and the late EWR is the only A340 flights that can be done with one airframe under 24 hrs. I recon SK901/902 will become a A321LR flight for the winter season 2020/2021.

The first A350 for SK did an engine run and taxi check this morning https://aibfamily.flights/A350/358. If there were no problems we should see a rejected take off and first flight sometime next week.

SAS is going to put the A350 on CPH-ORD too. When does that start? I see it for Q1 2020.

How miserably uncomfortable has SAS made the A350 seating arrangement in economy class?

The number of seats don't seem to be surprisingly high, so my best guess is no more than the usual misery of Y.

Just a general question, or is there a hint about the cabin I've missed somewhere

The evening departure from CPH to EWR allows a bunch of business travelers to visit CPH for a full work day without being away from home for another night. It seems to have more economy class award space at times than the earlier CPH-EWR flight.

3-3-3 strikes me as worse than 2-4-2, for starters.

SK’s seems to have a seat count that is about as bad as AY’s when it comes to the A350s.

True, but that is a given on all operators of the A350. The basic config so say. And it does beat the 3-4-3 on a 777. Though things don't get better by pointing out something worse.

The 3-3-3 of the A350 is pretty spacious though.

Comparing to CX SK adds quite a few seats, and does come in the same ballpark as AY. Though comparison is a bit iffy, as AY don't have PY.

CX has more galley and lavatory space it seems. Especially the mid J galley seems to take more space. If one can trust seat maps.

Looks like it happened today.
