They canceled the CPH-SFO flight I was booked on during the last strike action. Was rebooked the day before departure on AC via Toronto. Was a bit nasty with the long NA leg but I arrived without any major delay.

There was half a page or so in Dagens Nyheter today. Expect more coverage after the strike has started if families with children are affected.

Im on a trip to Asia...right now enjoying SGN! Im booked to fly home on 29 april at 01.00 AM with SK966 HKG-CPH-ARN. Waiting for whats gonna happen.. There is lots of *A flights out of HKG to Europe every day around midnight with TK, LH, LX or via BKK or SIN with TG or SQ. So Im not that worried, dont need to be home before 2 may. Hopeful the rebooking process will go smooth without need to call. But do you guys think SAS will book me on a flight before midnight on the 28 april or later that day on the 29 april? Anyone had experinence with SAS cancel flight out of HKG? I have made a full flexible hotel booking just to be sure I have somewere to stay in case of problems. Hongkong nights can be tuff on the street

I think we are discussing different topics here.
  • One topic is the flights operated during the strike is only wetlease flights. I don't think anyone has argued against this.
  • Another topic is whether the flight plan, which is made months ahead is set in stone. It's not. Aircraft's are switched around on a daily basis either because of disruptions or because the sale is different from what was assumed when the planning was done.
  • The last topic is whether SK can or will move wetlease aircrafts to flights normally operated by SK flights. Technically they could, but it will mess up their flight planning if the strike doesn't happen.

I heard in the news this morning that they are in arbitration today, and later today it will be announced whether will be a strike from tomorrow or not.
I think the lack of media attention is because neither parties are negotiating through the media this time.

The flights from US to EU on the 26 will not operate if the strike happens. Only the flights from Asia to EU. This is due to the outbound flights for US operates on the same day as the return flight, while it for Asia is the day before.

They will rebook you automatically and they will try to get you on flights as close to your depature date as possible. Whether this will be a day before or after your scheduled departure depends on the flight availability. Once you flight is canceled, you can always call SK and ask for a specific reroute. This also applies if you are not satisfied with the reroute they have booked you on.
They would normally offer to book hotels for you if you are rebooked on a flight the day after after your original schedule. If you book hotel your self, you can claim this expense for SK when you are back home.

I think it would be easier to find accommodation for 300 people in HKG than in OSL, ARN or CPH.

Although it's a few years ago I was booked SK MXP/CPH/SEA in J. When I turned up at the airport I was informed of a strike and was escorted to another desk and rerouted on Alitalia and BA MXP/LHR/SEA and actually arrived earlier than my originally booked flight. Good recovery SK!

Don't all major Asian cities get lots of Japanese tourists around Golden Week who fill up all hotels? All days from the 27th until the 6th are either Saturdays, Sundays or national holidays.

Looks like preemptive cancellations are underway. For those flying tomorrow, it may be wise to check now...

Right now it's "only" SK operated flights departing CPH, OSL or ARN before 12:00 which is canceled, and offcourse the connected return flights.
