cancelling return
Hi there,
Thanks in advance for any insight as to if this is do-able or not. I'm moving to Shanghai at the beginning of September and have found a decent fare going out in SAS Business and back in Go. AMS-CPH-PVG etc. The problem is, I'm not sure when exactly I'll need to come home. Am I able to cancel/change the return leg after taking the outbound at no cost, or no show, or will they chase me up if I no show for the return? Thanks, Lukecdw |
Rebooking is at cost (i.e. fee plus difference in fare, if any) whereas no one will be chasing you in case you don't turn up for your return flight.

Not correct.
SAS Go Changes: Rebooking is permitted against fee. In case of upgrading to a higher fare, the difference between the fare paid and the higher fare will be added. Refund: Ticket and domestic/international fees are non-refundable. Child discount: 2-11 years 25% discount. 0-2 years 90% discount. No discount on taxes or fees.

Is that better? Or, just in case you missed it -

You really need to read the fare rules or get a TA to book you a fare that allows rebooking at a reasonable cost, if that is what you want. It depends on your personal view of risk and insurance.

Well at SK you can buy saver ticket at all classes (Business, Plus and Go), and it's not always visible it's a saver ticket, unless you read the fine print. Normally in Business and Plus you are allowed to change a saver ticket against a fee, but in GO you can't change the ticket or get it refunded.

SK used to advertise that all their tickets are changeable (for a fee), and I have never met a shorthaul ticket that is not changeable. But I have very little experience with long haul. It's been years since I was on LH with SK. Somehow their destinations or prices never suit me.

Somtimes changing the ticket is more expensive than buying a new one. The change fee is ca. 500kr for shorthaul (can't recall exactly) plus you pay a fare difference. This means that this pays off only if the original ticket was more expensive than 500kr (otherwise you pay more for reclaiming it than you can reclaim). Also, even for non-refundable ticket you can get taxes refunded, but I don't know exactly which part of the taxes. I did it only once or twice. This means that if the benefit of re-booking of a cheap ticket is rather small (so the original ticket was close to 500kr), it is better to cancel it and reclaim the taxes.
I also await for the info about the change rules, as I rely on changing tickets fairly regularly, so I would like to be aware. I do recall that when PLUS SAVER was introduced, they made canceling PLUS tickets not possible (before canceling PLUS tickets was always free with no penalty regardless of the booking class). |
When I select the Go fare for AMS - PVG, I get the following
Code:
CHANGES |
Again. It's not the normal Go tickets I'm talking about. It's the cheap Go saver tickets, but the saver part is quite often left out once the ticket is purchased, and the only way to see it's a none changeable ticket is in the fine print in the fare rules, which often isn't general available once the ticket is purchased unless you are a TA.
I think it's about a year ago since I last saw one of those tickets. Regarding taxes. It's really so small amount that it's not worth mention IMHO. I think it's something like between 50-120 DKK for a shorthaul out of CPH. |
If you start your travel in Europe it is Go and Go Flex, but when you start it outside Europe you can get Go Saver. Depending on the country you start you get different conditions. Go Saver from US and China is changeable and not cancellable, while Go Saver from Japan is cancellable but not changeable.
Since we still talk about AMS - PVG I stick with those rules that it is likely changeable for 140€. |

Just got refund for a cheap CPH-CDG-CPH ticket: 404 DKK. And as the ticket had cost me 744 DKK, it was huge in percentage, more than 50 pct. |
