Requalifying
So I'm at around 80k points, I have one more trip planned for the very end of OCT.
My return is on 31st of OCT. I will requalify then, technically. So here's my question, there is an obvious delay, sometimes long delay before miles post. Does anyone have any experience with going over the end of qualification period with too little miles to retain status, yet having already flown enough to retain just the miles haven't been posted yet? I am guessing it will move me into graceperiod, then once the miles post back to their flight date, my status will hold again? Hopefully someone can tell me if that'll work correctly, or if SAS IT will cause some headaches. |

Off topic, but somewhat related: I am thinking about not re-qualifying GOLD this year, but in the 3-month extension period. Any risk?

Ooh, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for information. I just moved here from California a few years ago, I've only been gold for three years.

If you're close to 10 consecutive years as gold, you might want to reconsider as according to the latest statements I've heard, you need that for life time gold. Have to be pretty close to actually trust that'll happen though.

And of course, this only works, if you get your 45 segments or points in the three months. I don't think you can add the previous (non-requalifying) year's points, or can you?

I understand I would need 45k basic points in those three months, I'll get 20k basic from the credit card two weeks after my qualifying year starts, and I'll have the Gold bonus working for me to fly the rest, and Nov/Dec/Jan is generally pretty cheap, I'll fly a plus long haul and a winter trip and hopefully knock it out easy

The latest I heard was 10 years of Gold, not necessarily consecutive. Anyway, if to qualify in the 3 month grace period you are technically Gold all the time.
Personally I wouldn't risk it with the 3 month grace period if I had 8-9 years. At least I'd ask in the chat first. However with 3 years as EBG I wouldn't trust this feature still being there in 7 years enough to actually invest anything in it. Too hard to say if you'd actually be flying enough (with SK/*A) in the next 6 years as well. |

This video (in swedish, from the time of MIA route launch) suggests it's consecutive years: SAS EuroBonus Confirms Lifetime Gold Membership (short version) - YouTube

I've had my 10 years of consecutive Gold(/Diamond) but it seems to make no sense to put up the consecutive requirement.
Not only will you deny people who might have had 18 out of 20 years of Gold (or Diamond) but because of whatever circumstance unable to meet the requirement, despite potentially far more loyalty and spend than someone who only spot on requalified gold for 10 years in a row. Gold is really easy to reach (and has gotten easier). Not sure why SAS is so hesitant in creating such a perk. If not for the fact that if you don't fly them it is worthless. Very few people will make it in their first 10 years of flying. But anyway, this is Scandinavia, so they'll probably change their mind after some feminist flames them for discriminating women that are on parental leave and therefor can't fly for a year, or something similar. |
