My thought as well - now they can take like 680.

Still have a certificate for flying the Polar route through Anchorage to Tokyo in the early seventies, should have two but have only come across one recently. It could have been three but SAS pulled the route for a while when the US Government wanted visas for transit passengers going through Anchorage, went the Southern route stopping off at nearly every country between Japan and Denmark, almost 24 hours on one plane.

It was only a 747-200, so a couple of stretches shorter than the 747-8, and with the small upper deck with the spiral staircase in the nose It is only about 10 seats less than Lufthansa does in their 747-400 refurbished without first class.
And PS, the 747-8 does not seat 600+

A little edit to the PS... Forgot the "not"

Really? only 10 seats less than the 747-400? I do remember the 747-200, those have only 3 windows on each side. SQ called those with a bigger upper deck "mega top" - which was a big thing back in the 80s/early 90s.

Main difference is probably the balance between premium cabin and economy class, plus the fact that the premium cabin seats did not have anywhere near the space that they have today.

Browsing the interweb based on a comment about LEJ by @ksu I found this from 1946:

Nice find! So, that would roughly translate to $10k for the rountrip fare. Given that, the comfort of those planes and the length of the flight in those I'd probably preferred the ship

There has been some funny/interesting constellations going on over the years due to the SK-TG link.
I fondly remember the instant upgrade to J on TG flying SK in P on the CPH-BKK-SYD route.

They have fantastic stuff on SAS.
The SAS Museum reopened and they have redone their website. At first glance it has lost quite a few unique things but they have added some pictures. Worth a look.

Found this by the neighbourhood recycling bins in Stockholm. Fully intact and complete.
