Future SAS - your best advice and opinions

We're holding a presentation at the SAS Open House for SAS management. It's a very good opportunity to get your voice heard.

I'll put together a Powerpoint with your points so let's get this thread rolling:

SAS & Eurobonus: What do we like

SAS & Eurobonus: What do we want to change

What would make SAS your #1 airline

My number one wish is middle seat blocking for EBGs travelling in economy.
I understand that this is not realistic on a full flight, but at least those seats should be the last ones to be filled up.

I'll be at the event as well but here are some of my thoughts:

Eurobonus:

-better earnings (more fareclasses that will give you full points).
-2 systemwide upgrade vouchers when you (re)qualify for gold (see M&M).
-much better availability for award flights, especially in C.
-decent luggage tags.
-get rid off retro registration in BKK. 8 weeks as an average respond time (if any) is just not acceptable.

SK (inflight and ground):

-update the equipment.
-better cabin product in C (lie flat seats, new entertainment system).
-hire friendly staff at the OSL-Lounge-Desk.
-improve the connections to the Baltics.
-(free) wifi on longhaul flights.

SAS & Eurobonus: What do we like
SAS: Can't think of anything.
Eurobonus: Great value on intra-scandivian flight rewards. Reasonable fee on flight rewards.

SAS & Eurobonus: What do we want to change
SAS: Free water and cup of coffee/tea on European flights. (Prefer water over newspaper)
Eurobonus: I miss the 10k points Radisson redemption (currently 20k).

What would make SAS your #1 airline
Change course from becoming low-fare airline (in relation to service), I usually fly KLM which is not because of their FB program but mainly because of the total service included in the ticket price (usually better service for a smaller price than SAS).

SAS & Eurobonus: What do we want to change
-better cabin product in C (lie flat seats, new entertainment system).

Already posted some of that on flyprat, but hope this will be helpful:

SAS & Eurobonus: What do we like?

SAS:
  • Often good, sometimes great service on most routes. SAS people usually do care and that's very nice.
  • Fast Track: what a great perk/service!
  • Seat prebooking for EBG is very nice. Don't get me wrong I would not expect anything less.
  • SAS history is great, and I always feel some sort of nostalgia flying with them. I wish they'd play more on the Scandinavian vibe.
  • Intercont / C / The windows in the restroom are great.

Eurobonus:
  • Low taxes in comparison to other programs...
  • New baggage concept is great for status members.

SAS & Eurobonus: What do we want to change

SAS:
  • Better communication / PR. SAS has a thing for announcing things way to early. Example: Internet onboard and Smartpasses. The launch of both products was several times postponed. I've been waiting for the first for about a year now, and for the second for at least 6 months.
  • Where is the iPhone/Android app?
  • Some of SAS's planes are really suffering from the comparison with DY. I know some new planes are coming but they won't have Sky Interior nor Winglets. Why?
  • Europe: Tea/Coffee/Water foor free in Y. Gladelig as well a candy bar or a bag of crisps... Can't be that hard?
  • Intercont / Widder network. Get more planes and fly back to SEA, LAX... More destinations welcome.
  • Intercont / C / New lie fully flat seats 180d. Hopefully this is coming soon.
  • Intercont / C / Bigger screens (23'?), better IFE (more choice), goes with the seats.
  • Intercont / C / Get rid of the plastic foil/film over the food! Serve the food like in a restaurant, like in many other nice airlines in C. While at it, also get rid of the tray! It can't be that hard to remove tray and film just before serving, can it? That is a small detail but it makes all the difference!!!
  • Intercont / C / Use local culture as inspiration for the menus. Asian companies have an asian and western menu. SAS should always have a Scandinavian menu (not only salmon, I mean also reindeer, moose meat, christmas food in the season, The whole nine yards) and a more generic menu. Use SAS's specificities to an advantage.
  • Intercont / C / Less back and forth walking for the crew between the galleries. Sometimes they make me dizzy just watching them passing by 10 times without nothing in their arms (unnecessary)... That's especially annoying at night when female crew wears heels...
  • Intercont / Y+ / Here too SAS needs new seats. Many competitors now have a premium economy product with better seats. SAS prices are not exactly cheap for this class in comparison from C, so I think it's right to ask for an upgrade. Shell seats like AF would be great.
  • Intercont / Y+ / Better IFE here too of course.
  • Intercont / Y / AVOD is a must here!

Eurobonus:
  • Get rid of the stupid 25% rule:
EBG should always get 100% points whatever the booked economy class (like BA for ex).
EBS should get 50% points instead on 25% always.
  • Points and full advantages (FastTrack) for Domestic travel in Norway (I know SAS is working on the point issue, hopefully it will be back soon)
  • Priority boarding for EBG whatever the flight/airport, clearly indicated.
  • More award seats available for EBG / EBS (a la AF/KL), especially in C.
  • More promo award with 50% discount. The last few months have shown mostly 20%, and that's not good! Discounts on IC routes would be great as well, like on the earlier Christmas Calendars.
  • When Internet onboard will be available, it should be free for EBGs.
  • Better bagage tags (a la LH), with a nicer welcome package for EBGs. What we get today is embarrassing compared to many!
  • Stop the shopping frenzy. I'm tired of earning more points for a printer cardridge than for a flight!

What would make SAS your #1 airline

  • Whether I like it or not, SAS offers the best Network, and best advantages for a frequent traveller out of Scandinavia. So by force it is already the #1 airline today.
  • Listen to your customers, and to what we write on these pages.

Most important for me:
Allow stopovers on award travels on *A carriers, no fuel surcharge, and remove the limit on transfers (or increase the current level). I understand that EuroBonus might not want to make it easy to use partners for rewards - as opposed to SAS - but they could make it a little less obvious...? After all, SAS doesn't fly "worldwide" anymore. There are only so many times you'd want to visit NRT, NYC or ORD...

Other than that:
- More incentives to fly SK once you reach the EBG status
- New luggage tags wouldn't hurt (look to LH - stylish and good quality)
- Seat blocking for EBGs
- More 100% booking classes or increase the EBP/EBG/EBS bonus dramatically.
- New seats in C and new AVOD (already coming, I believe?)
- Make priority baggage work (at least stop the practice at some airports where it sometimes seems it's coming last as a rule)

Apart from this, I share most of the above comments.

SAS & Eurobonus: What do we like
No YQ on award tickets.

SAS & Eurobonus: What do we want to change
Get rid of the stupid 25% rule for all but the most cheap fare buckets.
Either get the priority baggage tags to work or stop advertising this. I understand that you have no influence in LHR, but having my baggage coming of the belt last in CPH after a leasure flight from MAD with a total of 5 C + EBG on board is downright insulting when SK owns the ground handling operation. It often feels like the ground handlers in CPH deliberately delays the baggage with priority tags!!

What would make SAS your #1 airline
Fully flat seats in IC C class with an improved IFE as well.
And perhaps giving out a few upgrades to EBGs each year like LH does.

Just my 2 cents.

SAS & Eurobonus: What do we like
  • +1 The service. Also, punctuality.
  • +1 The windows in the restroom.
  • Free dinner & tour at ARN

SAS & Eurobonus: What do we want to change
  • New C -seats, but I understand these are on their way.
  • +1 Upgrade vouchers when (re-)qualifying for EBG
  • Fast Track & Lounge at OSL for domestic departures.
  • Fix Priority (tags, boarding) or drop it, it's a joke as it is today.
  • Wider network, esp. get back the US west-coast routes.
  • New IFE w/sat-tv and AVOD
  • Wireless internets on the whole fleet.

What would make SAS your #1 airline
  • OSL-SFO (on 77Ws )

Obviously, I completely agree with what has been stated above, I just want to add/support some statements:

SAS & Eurobonus: What do we like
The feeling of traveling with SAS. Traveling with SAS completely matches the message you are trying to convey in many of your commercials on TV (Uffe Elleman, Tina Dickow, etc.) and I like it. It is generally a good experience traveling with SAS
Good C experience.
I have experienced some upgrades even as an EBS member - fantastic!!

SAS & Eurobonus: What do we want to change
No more 25% earnings - should always be 100%, at least for EBS, EBG and EBP!!!
Upgrade vouchers when qualifying for EBG
Upgrade vouchers when re-qualifying for EBG
New IFE w/sat-tv and AVOD - in all seats on IC flights and GATE TO GATE, please!!!
Wireless internets on the whole fleet.

What would make SAS your #1 airline
If/when Cimber air ceases operations, please take over their route to SGD

Best regards

Peter

Many have said right things, I repeat my points:

Useful:
- Fast Track
- Guest to lounge
- No surcharge on awards
- Punctuality

To improve:
- priority handling (details can be discussed during the event)
- intra EU Y+ food is sometimes and recently more often without taste (cous-cous)
- upgrade vouchers would be pleasant
- some morning arrivals to Europe are too late for me (but on occasions necessary)

I always thought they could do a better job of marketing in the U.S.

They focus alot on moving people back and forth to Scandinavia, but I think there is a market they can tap going to countries like Poland, Russia, etc. There is a distinct lack of awareness from non-Scandinavians and/or Americans that SAS is a good option to all of Europe. I think a marketing campaign in the US with that in mind would be beneficial.

+1 They have a serious job to do in sales. Particularly sales outside Scandinavia.
