Intercontinental pricing
 

Tried to book r/t osl-ewr today. Only fare available mid week in late august is economy extra at 16k NOK. Saturday night stay over is alive and kickin at sk intercontinental it seems. Ended up on BA in WT Plus for 7K

I thought they wanted pax on the new route, why are they sending their pax straight into the arms of BA. I am not very price sensitive, but a 9k premium is out of the question to fly direct.

Anyone else experience this?

Is sk intercontinental back to counting on government employees and investment bankers with unlimited travel budget, and the occasional leisure traveller like we had it before lcc arrived? And everyone else flies the competition:(

Looking at the loads on OSL-EWR they don't have any problems filling the planes.....

For some reason, SK doesn't have to compete with prices from ARN/OSL, especially during summer. They will have full cabins anyway.

It's not unusual to see package tour travelers from operators like Swansons in Economy on ARN-EWR and ARN-ORD in the summertime. Maybe some of these operators do large block bookings?

they recon you'll be willing to pay more for a direct flight, for the same reason that BA is more expensive from the UK than from anywhere else in Europe.

It is not possible to buy mid-week economy tickets with SAS to NYC. I have tried endlessly to find it. If you search with a saturday outbound you will most likely have cheap economy tickets available on the dates where you previously only had Economy Extra. At least this is my experience.

First I was bewildered by this, then I got angry, then I changed airline for longhaul flights. But I hear they still fill their planes so I guess it works, wich is admirable.

The example with BA, above, is not quite relevant though. Prices are about 20% off from select destinations. While this is more about trippling the cost of a mid week travel compared to a Sat-Sun stay trip.

Say what? I just picked a couple random dates i August for arn-ewr and there was plenty of M availibility. Were you by any chance looking for very short trips to NYC?

My point exactly. Without saturday night stay, its full economy extra at 16', or business full flex at 26'. They dont sell M.

This is rediculous. They are probably running full loads during the summer, but there is 9 more months in the year. I guess they are laying out the red carpet for Norwegian.

I will gladly pay a 20% premium for a direct flight on sk, but 100% is out of the question When i am travelling with a bigger Group of colleagues.

This is like it used to be pre lcc within europe

This is of course fair, Direct is more expensive, but 125% more expensive is a dealbreaker

It used to be that for anything less than 3 nights away it was economy extra, but for 3 nights or more away M was quite feasible. This seemed to have changed now.
