Recently the rumours have been that CPH-PVG would not happen until FEB2012 due to lack of equipment, but todays story on Takeoff.dk claim that CPH-PVG may get priority over CPH-DXB (or even CPH-ORD) and start as promised in OCT2011.
http://www.takeoff.dk/news/20777 (in Danish) The story links this decision to increased competition on CPH-DXB and high corporate interest in CPH-PVG from Maersk and others. SAS promises an official statement next week. |
I would not be surprised if CPH-DXB is cancelled. Will it be sustainable anyway now that EK flies to CPH and can offer connections to Australia and South East Asia?
|
I'm not sure about the overall numbers SK has for CPH-DXB. I recently flew GOT-DXB and my first choice is always SK. However, they were sold out despite being more expensive than Austrian. Austrian on the other hand flew one of the ways with an almost empty plane.
So, it seems SK gets the customers despite OS being cheaper. Seen from my limited experince anyway. |
According to takeof.dk and Richard Gustafson it will be in marts 2012.

The Ritzau wire is a bit more specific in this April 1th telegram (in Danish). According to an interview here with John Dueholm the service will start in late March 2012. The problem is, that the A340 (until then) is used by Portuguese Hi Fly.

SAS launches Copenhagen-Shanghai in March 2012
Scandinavian Airlines will launch its new Copenhagen-Shanghai March 1, 2012. The five weekly service will offer short and smooth connections time from all over Scandinavia and European destinations such as London, Munich, Paris, Berlin, Warsaw, Vienna and the Baltic capitals to Shanghai. From Shanghai, both SAS partners Air China and Shanghai Airlines offer a wide range of onward destinations, specifically in Southern China, but also across Asia. "The demand for traffic to China is again growing significantly and we see the need for an additional route, complementing our successful Copenhagen-Beijing and other Asian routes. This new service also offers a multitude of smooth transfers on both ends, making it an accessible and quick route for many European and Asian travelers," says Robin Kamark, Chief Commercial Officer, Scandinavian Airlines. The Copenhagen-Shanghai route will be served by an Airbus A340-300, the largest aircraft in the SAS fleet, offering 245seats in a three service class set up of Business, Economy Extra and Economy. The A340 used on this route will be SAS' 11th long-haul aircraft and will enter the SAS fleet after having been leased to another airline for the past two years. Departures from Copenhagen on SK997, will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 18.25, arriving the following day in Shanghai at 11.35. Departures from Shanghai on SK998, will be at 13.25 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. |

Axelzon P.S. keeps fingers crossed that SK donīt let us down with further more postpone of this route! |
Dunno, why you love this route to be set up so badly. Lufthansa flies twice daily from FRA, once daily from Munich, Air France twice daily from CDG, KLM twice daily from AMS, Swiss daily... BA daily, and there are also Chinese airlines that are in this route and Finnair daily. I have high doubts that SAS can earn that much profit from this line.

I'm travelling OSL-PVG two three times a year in C with LH. Would certainly try out SK and get even more miles, but with the status match and future Sen status it may be a difficult choice. As an EBG I feel a bit more valued on SK than I do on LH, but I don't know whether the Sen status is going to change that.
