Value of Eurobonus points

I'm looking to make a trip as per below:
CPH-FRA-MEX
MEX-YYC (connect in Houston)
YYC-LHR

I have checked with SAS and the cost of the flights (all econ as business was not available) would be 140,000points +£250.
I thought this sounded a bit expensive compared to booking all econ tickets without points (arround £,0100-1,100 in total for same legs as above via expedia)
So the value for my points would be around £55-60 per 10,000 miles. Is that good value for my miles or should i rather pay for this trip and save my miles for another opportunity in business later on?

I guess your EBG? How many miles do you have and when do they expire? Would you benefit anything from being able to cancle/change the trip the last minute?

I personally don't find redeeming miles for economy class tickets particularly good value, and even more so if it is on another airline. Intercontinental is a might better than intraeuropean, though. I would redeem for business class, or buy economy and then upgrade using points (if possible on the partner airline).

That was alot of cash, If you fly with LH they add fuelcharge, try to get over the atlantic with SAS instead ;)!

yes EBG, have some 200,000+ miles and certainly dont hope i need to cancel last minute ;)
Too me it almost seem better value booking this trip with cash and try to use the miles for a return flight in business longer ahead.

agree, would make a lot more sense.

I seem to find, that to get max value for points,
- fly business
- or use them when you need to travel last minute
- use them on point bargains

On point bargains on CPH-BRU, you can go for 10.000 points + 350 DKK in taxes. Ticket would have been at least 1200 DKK, so 900 DKK/1000 points at least = 0,9 DKK/mile

Last minute flights on same route, at least 3500 DKK, so in such case (with no point bargains) 3150 DKK/20.000 = 1,575 DKK/mile

Best value for your points is always flying F!

ARN-SIN using points and "best price" on Kayak.com:

Y: 90.000 points or 6.747 SEK = 13p/SEK
C: 135.000 points or 27.149 SEK = 5p/SEK
F: 180.000 points or 80.686 SEK = 2,2p/SEK

that is quite interesting, its bang on target for my specific route (Y) which is 14p/SEK converted...

Then again, the value added from C to F might not justify the points hike.
