and now it seems the flight on friday (30 july) CPH-ORD is zeroed out. so i might try and do the same thing. i will say though, LH Y in the 744 is not that great, and i'm not impressed in FRA in general.

i'll give another update when i get back to SFO.

Err...that seems like a really, really bad deal.

For being delayed one day on SK995 (CPH-PEK), taking the same flight 24h later, I got bumped from M (actually, booking class was probably K) to C, received 600 euros worth of vouchers and one night at a radisson in Copenhagen including three prepaid meals (good ones) and taxi to/from the airport.

Taken in account that IAD-CPH is a shorter route, proportionally speaking the compensation should still be waaay higher than 150...?

150 EUR? On IAD-Europe on an EU-carrier? That seems way too low. I thought it was a minimum of 400 EUR (EU rules)

The rules apply in the case of INvoluntary DB. For Voluntary DB, the airline is free to offer anything, and see if some pax are interested. That said, I have been offered the IDB amount by SAS to change ARN-ORD to ARN-CPH-ORD, and I thought that was the usual SK proc.

If your employer paid your original ticket, and you get to pocket the 150 EUR, I would at least consider it (but would hesitate if the alternative routing is by LH Y :D).

it was 300 euros in coupons or half in cash. still trying to figure out where to take the voucher for the cash as SAS doesn't have a sales offce in BRU (what I was told at the airport). looks like CPH-ORD is zeroed out tomorrow. what do you think I should get for vdb'ing off that? final dest is SFO.

and yeah, 150 is prob low but we got in 30 minutes later then originally planned. only thing that stunk was Y on the LH 744.

We had a discussion about cashing vouchers recently: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/sas-e...-vouchers.html I take it that you are tranferring at CPH tomorrow, that should be a safe bet!

i figured that much...since i'm heading back to the states, can they deposit it into my account? euros will be kind of useless to me. i'd like to get it in US$.

also, curious as to what they will offer me if CPH-ORD is oversold.

It is also my impression that SK give the same amounts for VDB's. After all, we help them by saving them from a potentially inpleasant situation where passengers might be upset.
Now, 150 eur seem low but i believe it is calculated after the delay time. The 600eur (in flight cupons) is if you get delayed 12 hours or more. I once was offered 300eur for a later ARN-LHR flight the same day, but they changed the equipment and accomodated everyone. If it was 150eur in cash (300eur coupons) it seems in order. I got that once when i was bumped from an LH flight FRA-ARN, my incoming connection was late so they had released my seat to the waiting list when i got to gate and i had to wait until next day (hotel paid for, of course).

This is actually something I am curious about. Not that I expect to ever be denied boarding against my will, I am sure there will always be someone voluntering. ;)

EC 261/2004 clearly states what the compensation should be in case of denied boarding, for example for a flight no longer than 1500km it is 250 EUR, reduced to 125 EUR if you arrive at your destination within 2 hours of the original scheduled time. Surely this regulation must mean that the passenger is entitled to this amount in cash, right? So the SK voucher should be for double this amount if used for flying?

My understanding and experience is consistent with this, that if you are rebooked and arrive within 2 hours they will give you a vouchure for €300 which has a cash value of €150.

This appears consistent with the above comments - which get a little confusing because it switches between cash value and flight value.

Unfortunately, over the years SAS's systems have become more sophisticated so the frequency of vouchures is much less than it used to be. I used to be able to fund most of my travel through VDBs....

Incidentally, does SAS still wave booking fees on use of vouchures?

goodness gracious what a disaster coming back. CPH-ORD yesterday was zeroed out, but no VDBs. then, delayed two hours because of a bad fuel pump. then, we're offloaded and put on another plane that was supposed to leave an hour later. needless to say, we missed out connection and had to overnight in ORD. i tried to get my flights changed in CPH because i had a feeling things wouldn't work out in ORD. they said they couldn't do it. so in ORD, they rebooked us on AA leaving at 13:50 today. i said no, and to put me on UA first flight out. she did so...however, it appeared she forgot to, as we were still on AA this morning.

anyway, AA released us over to UA, and we got back at 11:20. but what a mess. SK lost a lot of $ on that one.
