Volcanic ash disrupts airtravel in Northern Europe

Lots of domestic flight activity in Norway halted at the moment. It will be interesting (for lack og better word!) to follow the situation in the coming hours and days.

Noticed that SK904 was about 3 hrs late into ARN this morning, i suppose they had to fly a more southern route. Also from 11AM swedish time, all air traffic in northern part of Sweden will be cancelled, which means no flights to OSD or KRN. Cloud is supposed to advance further south, so we might see further disruptions duing the next days.

That's a wee bit too close for comfort for Arlanda/stockholm area.

Edit: Latest news is that all flights Sweden-London are cancelled. I am (for once!) glad i dont have any air travel coming up this weekend!

Latest report from Navair, responsible for Danish airspace , is forecasting a closure of CPH late this afternoon or perhaps early in the evening. Worst case the airspace might stay closed for days.

The entire Norwegian airspace is closed since 10:00. See avinor.no.

All London airports will close in 15 minutes from now.

The latest charts from metoffice doesn't look too good for ARN and eastern swedish airspace either. Looks like a closure from tomorrow morning might be possible:

Naviair is gradually closing Danish airspace today. It is expected a total closure will be in effect as of 18.00 CET today, which also will affect CPH.
Link to map over expected closure of Danish airspace:
http://www.naviair.dk/media/lukning_DK_airspace.pdf

As noted earlier OSL closed at 10.00 CET today: http://www.osl.no

LHR and STN is expected to close at 13.00 CET today: http://www.baa.com/

Updated map with expected spread of ash cloud at 8.00, 14.00, 20.00 and 02.00 tomorrow:
http://www.dr.dk/Nyheder/Udland/2010/04/15/105225.htm
It seems that ARN, HEL, AMS and possibly FRA and CDG might be affected late tonight.

What a mess - happy that I can enjoy the sun on my patio today rather than sit and wait at some airport.

Anyone from FT was onboard that flight? I'd love to see the route they took to get back!
