I guess if he will jump on a ferry now, chances are he will be at home earlier than on any flight! If I remember right, there are some ferries from Iceland to Denmark, but it takes several days and frequency is something like once a week only. Taking the current situation into account he might need to be gold or platinum with ferry company to get any seat (or bed?)

When are you leaving jacob_m to Gothenburg. I managed to get a hotelroom at ARN and will travel to Malmo om the same route as you. My train leaves at 1025.
Last saturday i was on a flight fr RIX-CPH, after having a partynight with my brother Gnopps. 15 min in to the flight the right engine started to alternate rpm heavily. Soon after the captain announced that we would go back to RIX since we might would loose its power. That incident resulted in a 7 hour wait in the lounge. Today was my first flight since saturday and now I am stuck again....

Yes, the volcano is about 200 km east of Keflavik and the jetstream is blowing all the ash towards Europe.
If KEF closes, then all 2-engine traffic across the Atlantic will be grounded as KEF is the emergency airport that allows ETOPS...

I just spoke to a colleague who left on one of the last flights to Stockholm this afternoon before the traffic was suspended.
He said it was the weirdest flight he had ever taken as they flew on a very low altitude (he described it as the lowest that could possibly be allowed) and they really had to struggle to navigate around the ash clouds.
Also he said when he looked out of the window it was very clear there were other things in the sky than the usual clouds.
Are you travelling Stockholm-Malmö? I'm travelling in the opposite direction.
If there are no flights in the afternoon (I still have a booking which we have not cancelled yet as the flight has not been cancelled) I will catch a train at 2 pm, 45 min transfer in Gothenburg and then arrive in Stockholm around 11 pm. Two slow Intercity trains that will stop at every bloody station in Sweden, that will be a long afternoon and evening...
But at least I'll get home, I can imagine many people won't.

Up to my best knowledge, KEF is not the only diversion airport in North Atlantic, althouth most preferrable. Also such closure will affect only ETOPS120 certified aircraft like some 737 and 320s, any some ETOPS120 airlines, but not a lot of them flying across the pond. ETOPS180 (all majors on 757/767/777/330) are not affected.

LFV now says that traffic in Sweden are likely not resumed until saturday, so all of tomorrow the sky will be silent.
On the good side, there will be some nice sunsets here if only the weather would clear.

Rebooking/Refund
Passengers originally booked on cancelled SAS operated flights may be rerouted to other flights to the same destination. The ticket may also be refunded.
Passenger holding reservation April 16 - 17, 2010
Passenger holding reservation on a flight not yet affected may be rebooked to another date in the same service class as originally booked to the same destination. Travel must be completed December 31, 2010.
Rebooking or refund does not have to be done immediately, but can be done at any time in the near future.

If it remains strong enough to do what it has done already, then I expect there will be more cars, boats and trains in my future, along with a lot more flying from points south to points south and then taking surface transport back north and south on the tail end of the flights.
Which boat lines provide elite status and points?
... and some people would need to get their visa/immigration status adjusted.

You're basing this on normal routings. The Icelandair flights from AMS & FRA yesterday took 4-5 hours instead of the normal 2-3 hours. I believe a closure at KEF would close down most TATL flights...
