Great then. Nice to see others reaching status they did not hope achieving yet!

According to standby.dk (http://www.standby.dk/news/22080), SAS estimates extra 12.000 Silver and 5.000 Gold from the new segment qualification rules.

5.000 new Gold members - with at least 40 flights each = 200.000+ travellers (+ guests/families) per year crowding lounges and fast-tracks.

I do not know if it was coincidence or if was a result of the above - when flying out of CPH Monday, I ended up going to the normal security (for a two minute wait) because the fast-track queue was almost to the top of the escalators

Consider they lost 7000 EBG in 2009, this would still mean a net reduction of 2000 EBG. So stop whining!

And regarding the que at Fast Track at CPH monday....this new segment based qualilfication has just been introduced, so it's not like they already sent out 5000 new EBG-cards

Clever move by SAS. Handing out status cards is an easy way for the company to build loyalty without giving the customers any miles (worth mentioning anyway) to spend.

Well, do they know how much alcohol Norwegians consume in the lounges?

The new rule also apply for your current qualification period - so SAS have send out a lot of new cards recently (I know many of my colleagues have just received theirs).

Presuming they travel on business days only...: 200.000 / >200 = <1.000 individuals per day spread over 10s or 100s of airports (admittedly probably a majority of them take their flights out of CPH/OSL/ARN). Still, add that to Someone83's point, and I really think you'll be fine......

I believe the people who will mostly benefit from this change are those having a large number of segments through connecting flights. For example in Finland there are many regional airports with no lounges, so whether EBG or not makes no difference there. Even if a lounge exists, not all EBGs will use it every time.

And then there are of course other *Gs than just EBGs, also utilizing the same lounges.

Just passed the 40 flights, and 90K points (making me double EBG?) lets see if this means anything.

See you up there...

731000 members of FF programme in a country with a population of 4.500.000, that makes 16%? I guess only Icelandair have higher % of population in their FFP

Remarkable figures indeed, especially since you don´t earn bonuspoints /status on domestic flights in Norway.

But compared to BMI , SAS is still playing hard to get. Don´t know if it is a targeted promotion or not, but I got this email offer from BMI:
Take just two flights in April and become BMI Silver for three months. Earn 4000 membership status points within the 3 months and maintain the Silver status for a further year
